NFL Mock Draft 1.0: NEW YEAR NEW TEAM Part 4 (Picks 16-20)

BY ADAM GREENE

On to Part 4 of my first Mock Draft of the offseason for picks 16-20. In this section, the pre-drafttrades have started to show up as teams finally get a chance to prove they’ve done the right thing in swapping out bonafide star players in exchange for question marks and potential.

16. ATLANTA FALCONS – KRISTIAN FULTON, CB, LSU

(6-0, 200) 2019: 32 tackles, one interception, 13 passes defended

If there’s a good, high-ranked edge rusher, the Falcons will probably turn in that card, considering they keep spending high picks to find a guy that can sack the QB consistently to no avail. But with Epenesa gone in my mock here, I say they go corner, a huge need on a team that just can’t keep them healthy. The Falcons saw Desmond Trufant, Keanu Neal and Johnathan Cyprien all finish the year on IR.

17. DALLAS COWBOYS – GRANT DELPIT, SAFETY, LSU

(6-3, 203) 2019: 59 tackles, 3.5 for a loss, one sack, two interceptions, seven passes defended, one fumble recovery

Two Tigers come off the board back-to-back as the Cowboys bolster a weak defensive backfield with the big safety from LSU. Dallas is a team without a lot of needs (other than a competent head coach), so there’s no reason to make a reach here. Delpit is a guy that can play close to the line on run downs and has no issues facing off against physical running backs and blockers.

18. MIAMI DOLPHINS (FROM STEELERS) – PRINCE TEGA WANOGHO, OL, AUBURN

(6-7, 305)

The Dolphins got their quarterback at No. 5 and here at No. 18 make sure he’ll stay upright by picking a player from his alma mater’s arch nemesis. Miami opened its fire sale by trading offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil for a couple of first round draft picks from the Texans. They’ll still have both those picks after selecting his replacement here at 18.

19. OAKLAND RAIDERS (FROM BEARS) – YETUR GROSS-MATOS, EDGE, PENN STATE

(6-5, 264) 2019: 40 tackles, 14.5 for a loss, nine sacks

The Raiders picked their WR at No. 12 and take care of their pass rusher needs at 19 with the addition of YGR. Gross-Matos is a huge guy and played the strong side at Penn State, so he’s no stranger to shrugging off tight ends on his way to the offensive backfield.

20. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (FROM RAMS) – XAVIER MCKINNEY, CB, ALABAMA

(6-1, 200) 2019: 95 tackles, 5.5 for a loss, three sacks, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery

There’s no reason for the Jaguars to talk themselves out of taking the best corner on the board with the first of the two picks they nabbed in the Jalen Ramsey trade. McKinney has spent the last two seasons as a starter, lining up against the best wideouts in the country. And, like Ramsey, he’s not afraid to make a tackle or play in the backfield. The only issue with the Jags adding McKinney here is he might already be off the board when their pick shows up.
