NFL Mock Draft 1.0: NEW YEAR NEW TEAM Part 5 (Picks 21-25)

We come to the playoff team portion of our first round mock, which means none of these selection numbers are set in stone until each team is either knocked from the playoffs or hoists a Lombardi come February 2.

21. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES – TEE HIGGINS, WR, CLEMSON

(6-4, 215) 2019: 56 catches, 1,115 yards, 13 touchdowns

With so many injuries and contracts coming up with the wideout unit, there’s no excuse not to reload. The Eagles can do a lot to take care of potential holes in other areas of their team by just working out new contracts with their own guys. They could look at a running back here, and that would make sense, but I can’t see them passing up Higgins, a guy who’s lit it up against high-caliber national competition for years at Clemson.

22. TENNESSEE TITANS – C.J. HENDERSON, CB, FLORIDA

(6-1, 202) 2019: 33 tackles, three for a loss, one sack, 11 passes defended

The Titans have two corners headed to free agency this season, Logan Ryan and Tramaine Brock and will maybe keep one. Either way, Henderson is a perfect fit for the Tennessee defense. Mike Vrabel, if he learned anything at all in his time with Bill Belichick, it should be that you can never have enough good defensive backs.

23. BUFFALO BILLS – HENRY RUGGS, III, WR, ALABAMA

(6-0, 190) 2019: 40 catches, 746 yards, seven touchdowns, one rushing touchdown

The Bills are a team that will always struggle in the free agent market simply because they play in a frozen hellscape and haven’t won consistently since the Grunge was a thing. For that reason, they have to draft for need every year, regardless of where they pick. Ruggs is a tough WR, which is what they require, and a good route runner who, like his SEC contemporaries, has consistently performed against future NFL-level talent.

24. MINNESOTA VIKINGS – BRYCE HALL, CB, VIRGINIA

(6-1, 200) 2019: 20 tackles, three for a loss, one sack, four passes defended

Hall missed most of the 2019 season after ankle surgery, but he should be more than ready to put on a show at the combine and remain in the first round conversation. The Vikings don’t have a lot of choice with this pick. Pretty much every defensive back on their roster is heading into the final year of his contract in 2020. It’s time to bring in some new blood.

25. MIAMI DOLPHINS (FROM TEXANS) – JAVON KINLAW, DL, SOUTH CAROLINA

(6-6, 310) 2019: 35 tackles, six for a loss, six sacks, two passes defended, two forced fumbles

The Dolphins have already addressed their two biggest needs heading into their third first rounder so there’s no reason not to take the best player available here. They could also look to trade down with a team enamored with Kinlaw with a glaring interior need like the Seahawks. The Dolphins would be justified in looking hard at Kenneth Murray here too or even a D’Andre Swift, but I feel there’s plenty of running back value in the second round and the Fins have two picks to spend there.
