NFL Power Rankings: Week 14 Part 1

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on our arbitrary and meaningless power rankings, but with just four weeks left in the regular season and the playoff races heating off, now is the perfect time to see who’s doing this whole football thing right and who needs to be taken to the woodshed

1. BALTIMORE RAVENS (10-2)

I don’t know what we’re seeing in Baltimore right now and I’m not sure anyone does. I wrote that the draft grade on Lamar Jackson disproves all this scout “ceiling talk” as just so much horse crap. No player in that draft had a higher ceiling than Jackson. I graded him as a first rounder, but he wasn’t in my Top Three. Is he changing the NFL or just catching everyone by surprise? It happened with the RPO five years ago. Regardless, right now the Ravens are the best thing going and Jackson is the main reason why. I have a bad feeling they’ll get caught in the playoffs, but I’d love to be proven wrong.

2. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (10-2)

Just as everyone was crowning the 49ers, the Seahawks took over the NFC West. They’ll get the chance to settle it on the field in Week 17.

3. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (10-2)

The Niners went from Super Bowl favorite to wild card in just a single week. That’s what the Ravens can do to you. If they hold on, they’ll have earned as they face off against the Saints, the Rams and the Seahawks in the final four weeks of the season.

4. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (10-2)

I was tempted to put the Saints at No. 3. I figure a win Sunday will take care of that for me.

5. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (10-2)

It’s weird to see all the negativity and hand wringing about a 10-2 team, but that’s where the Patriots are right now with their 42-year old quarterback. When that’s happened in the past, they usually come out and curb stomp somebody. They have the Chiefs this week. Let’s see what happens.

6. GREEN BAY PACKERS (9-3)

This team looked like a Super Bowl squad to me a month ago, but two bad losses to the Chargers and 49ers in three weeks should have us all questioning the Pack.

7. HOUSTON TEXANS (8-4)

Bill O’Brien did everything he could in the offseason to ruin this team and it’s winning in spite of him.

8. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (8-4)

A win over the Patriots Sunday might finally put us all out of their misery.

9. BUFFALO BILLS (9-3)

The Bills are sneakily good and built to win in January. No place they’ll play will be as bad as their own home stadium.

10. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (8-4)

Is it time for that patented Kirk Cousins December downfall?

11. LOS ANGELES RAMS (7-5)

Sean McVay has been forced to adapt his offense on the fly thanks to a disintegrating offensive line and no idea which Jared Goff will show up on the field from one play to the next. Still, this team is in contention and don’t let the metrics tell you different. If they win out, they’ll make the playoffs.
