The Seattle Seahawks are in dire straits in terms of their backfield. The team that’s third in the NFL in rushing attempts is going to have to find some guys to carry the ball following their stream of injuries at the position. The latest news suggests that the Seahawks have given a call to Marshawn Lynch, who could return to the team. BetOnline.ag has posted the odds for his return and there could be value on him signing.

SEAHAWKS SUFFER SERIES OF RUNNING BACK INJURIES

The Seahawks enter Week 17 as the third-best rushing team in the NFL. They’re averaging 138.3 yards per game on the ground but the challenge is who will be carrying the ball for them going forward?

The Seahawks lost on Sunday to the Arizona Cardinals but their backfield was cleaned out when leading rusher Chris Carson was forced out of the game with a hip injury. C.J. Prosise, who is more of a utility back, was also lost to an arm injury. Head coach Pete Carroll has already stated that both will be out for the season. Remember, this team also lost former first-round pick, Rashaad Penny, to a season-ending injury just about a week ago too, so this backfield has lost it’s top three guys. That trio of players had combined for 1,672 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns this season.

Left on the roster is rookie sixth-round pick, Travis Homer, who has a total of eight carries on the year for 52 yards. This is not the position the team wanted to be in considering they have a huge game with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 with the top seed in the NFC on the line.

CAN MARSHAWN LYNCH SOLVE THEIR WOES?

The value on the ‘Yes’ in this prop with Lynch seems to be there as all sides seem optimistic about a deal getting done. Lynch is actually visiting the team on Monday and he’ll go through a physical. If he’s cleared, he’ll probably re-join the team.

Lynch hasn’t been with the Seahawks since 2015. He retired after that season but then joined his hometown Oakland Raiders in 2017. He played with them for two seasons before retiring after the 2018 campaign. Lynch was serviceable last year, averaging 4.2 yards-per-carry, so if he can approach those numbers, the Seahawks might have a solution.

The issue is that Lynch is 33 years old and that’s up there for running backs. There are just three running backs in the NFL right now that are 33 or older: Frank Gore, Darren Sproles and Adrian Peterson. The good news with Lynch is that he would be rejoining an offense that he knows very well. He’s familiar with the coaching staff and the team, so it might not take him very long to acclimate. Don’t be surprised if he’s signed and with the team this week.
