SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: CLEVELAND BROWNS AT BALTIMORE RAVENS

BY ADAM GREENE

For the fourth consecutive week Sunday Night Football delivers a solid game between two playoff contenders that could, conceivably, ruin the rest of the season for the loser. The Cleveland Browns and their one-armed quarterback Baker Mayfield travel to M&T Bank Stadium to take on the unpredictable Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens are consistently winning in the most loser way possible, relying on luck and last second heroics. Baltimore could easily be a 2-8 team if one play per game had flipped.

Meanwhile, this is pretty much where I thought Cleveland would be, even with a fully healthy Baker Mayfield. But he’s not, playing with one arm and holding off Case Keenum in the silly dream that he can land a $35 million a year contract in the offseason.

This is the 44th all time meeting between the Browns and the Ex Browns. If you don’t know the story, (and, if so, welcome to football betting Gen Z) the Ravens were the original Cleveland Browns until then owner Art Modell wanted to move the team to Baltimore in 1996. In a deal with the league, he left the Browns name and history in Cleveland and jettisoned off to Crab town where that team won two Super Bowls and is a perennial playoff contender.

The new Browns have not had that kind of luck.

Baltimore leads the series 33-11 and has won three straight. Lamar Jackson is 4-1 in his career against Cleveland.

CLEVELAND BROWNS AT BALTIMORE RAVENS (-3.5, O/U: 47)

Location: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, Md.

Broadcast: NBC

Kickoff: Nov. 28, 8:20 p.m.

CLEVELAND BROWNS (6-5)

The Browns bounced back, if you can call it that, from a 45-7 loss to the New England Patriots with a 13-10 embarrassing win over the hapless and winless Detroit Lions last week. Mayfield finished 15 of 29 for 176 yards, one touchdown and two picks. Nick Chubb was the MVP easily, rushing 22 times for 130 yards. Cleveland’s defense never laid a finger on Tim Boyle, making his first start for Detroit, but did intercept him twice.

BALTIMORE RAVENS (7-3)

With Lamar Jackson out with an illness, the Ravens hung on to beat the Chicago Bears 16-13 a week ago thanks to back up QB Tyler Huntley. Huntley threw for 219 yards and an interception while rushing for 40 yards. Mark Andrews caught eight passes for 73 yards. Baltimore’s defense sacked Andy Dalton once and held Chicago to just 92 total yards on the ground.

THE PICK

No one disclosed what illness Jackson had last week other than it wasn’t COVID-19, but the last time his body was feeling wonky against Cleveland, after a quick trip to the locker room toilet, he led Baltimore to a 47-42 victory. I like sick Lamar to do it again. Ravens 31, Browns 20
