SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: DALLAS COWBOYS AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS

BY ADAM GREENE

In a week full of garbage match ups, Sunday Night Football actually came out alright as the Dallas Cowboys travel to US Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings.

While the Cowboys are one of the undisputed better teams in the league, Minnesota has been more of a mystery this season. Kirk Cousins opened the year playing at an elite level, but can’t seem to do it week to week. Dak Prescott, on the other hand, has likely already locked up the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award and is in the mix for MVP.

This is one of the more storied non-divisional rivalries in the NFL in spite of this just being the 33rd time they’ve faced off. Seven times the Vikings and Cowboys have met in the postseason and twice it was in the NFC Championship game in 1973 and 1978. Minnesota won the 73 NFC title and would go on to lose Super Bowl VIII 24-7 to the Miami Dolphins. Dallas won the 78 game before falling 35-31 in Super Bowl XIII to the Pittsburgh Steelers in one of the greatest ever played.

DALLAS COWBOYS AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS (+1, O/U: 55)

Location: US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minn.

Broadcast: NBC

Kickoff: Oct. 31, 8:20 p.m.

DALLAS COWBOYS (5-1)

Dallas comes into this game off a bye, but still not entirely healthy as Dak Prescott’s calf strain might force him to sit out the game. Two weeks ago the Cowboys knocked off the New England Patriots 35-29 in overtime. Prescott threw for 445 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Ezekiel Elliott rushed 17 times for 69 yards and CeeDee Lamb caught nine passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns, one of which won the game in walk off fashion. Dallas’ defense picked off Mac Jones once, forced a fumble and sacked him twice.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS (3-3)

Like the Cowboys, the Vikings too enter Sunday night’s match up off a week’s rest. Kirk Cousins was on fire against the Carolina Panthers, completing 33 of 48 for 373 yards and three touchdown in a 34-28 victory. Dalvin Cook rushed 29 times for 140 yards and a score. Adam Thielan caught 11 passes for 126 yards and a TD. Minnesota’s defense sacked Sam Darnold four times, picked him off once and forced two fumbles.

THE PICK

If Prescott can’t go, the drop off to Cooper Rush is obviously significant. Even with Dak playing and not 100 percent, Dallas could be in trouble here. They’ve had issues stopping everyone this season and Minnesota has the offensive roster to give them real issues. I like Minny in the upset. Vikings 34, Cowboys 31
