SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: KANSAS CITY CHIEFS AT LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

BY ADAM GREENE

How about this? A Kansas City Chiefs primetime game with some actual postseason implications? Such is the chaos that suddenly engulfs the AFC as the Las Vegas Raiders attempt to hang on to their tenuous grasp of a Wild Card seed at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday Night Football.

The AFC has taken “Any Given Sunday” to the extreme and after back to back weeks filled with shockers and upsets, the Chiefs can get right back into their AFC title defense with a victory here.

Las Vegas has had every type of distraction under the sun hit them short of an alien space ship landing at halftime, so just remember if that does occur Sunday, I called it.

As two of the original AFL franchises, this rivalry goes all the way back to 1960. This will be the 125th all time meeting between the two clubs, with Kansas City holding a 68-54-2 advantage. Last year the two teams split, with the Raiders taking game one 40-32 to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the 2020 season. KC got revenge on Nov. 22 with a 35-31 victory. Patrick Mahomes threw for 348 yards, two touchdowns and a pick in that game. Derek Carr was good for 275 yards, three TDs and an interception. Tyreek Hill had 11 catches for 102 yards and a touchdown. Travis Kelce caught eight passes for 127 yards and a TD.

Location: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nev.

Broadcast: NBC

Kickoff: Nov. 14, 8:20 p.m.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (5-4)

No one benefited more from Aaron Rodgers’ “personal choices” than the Chiefs, who knocked off the hapless Green Bay Packers 13-7 last Sunday in a game that wasn’t even that close. Mahomes threw for 166 yards and a touchdown and, more importantly, did not throw an interception. Darrell Williams rushed 19 times for 70 yards and Kelce caught five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs defense sacked Jordan Love once and picked him off once. They held Green Bay to just 122 total yards on the ground.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (5-3)

The Raiders train finally leapt the rails last week and it cost them a game, a 23-16 loss to the New York Giants. Derek Carr threw for 296 yards and a touchdown, but also tossed a couple of interceptions. Josh Jacobs rushed for 76 yards and Darren Waller caught seven passes for 92 yards. They sacked Daniel Jones twice on defense, but surrendered the winning score in the fourth quarter. After cutting Henry Ruggs III, Las Vegas added Desean Jackson this week, but there’s no indication of how much he’ll play.

THE PICK

At this point, it would show resiliency we haven’t seen in all of human history for the Raiders to pull their season out of the toilet. They could have survived losing Jon Gruden. Hell, Las Vegas looked better without him. But the hits just keep on coming and it finally showed up on the field last week. I think it stays there. As for the Chiefs, I have no idea who’s showing up this week, but I do know none of them will be holding assault rifles or looking at 40 years in prison. Chiefs 27, Raiders 17
