SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL WEEK 10: NEW YORK JETS AT LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Alright, listen, NFL Schedule makers. There was no way anyone wanted this. Not even Aaron Rodgers’ ayahuasca shaman would want to see him this much. And, as for the Las Vegas Raiders, there was no universe in the multiverse where they’d be good, with the exception of whatever one saw Mark Davis refrain from hiring Josh McDaniels in the first place. Regardless, Cris Collinsworth’s slide-in will, literally, be half-assed this week as the New York Jets travel to Sin City to take on the Raiders on Sunday Night Football.
As two of the original AFL clubs, this rivalry goes all the way back to 1960. This will be the 49th all time meeting between the franchises with the Raiders holding a 26-20-2 lead in the series. Vegas has won three of the last four including their last meetup on Dec. 6, 2020. Derek Carr (now with the New Orleans Saints) was 28 of 47 passing for 381 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the win. He also rushed for a TD. Devontea Booker rushed 16 times for 50 yards. Darren Waller (now with the New York Giants) caught 13 passes for 200 yards and two scores. Henry Ruggs (now in prison) caught three passes for 84 yards and a touchdown.
In the loss, Sam Darnold (now with the San Francisco 49ers) was 14 of 23 passing for 186 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Ty Johnson (now with the Buffalo Bills) had 22 carries for 104 yards and a TD. Jameson Crowder (now with the Washington Commanders) caught five passes for 47 yards and two scores.
NEW YORK JETS AT LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (+2, O/U: 36.5)
Location: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nev.
Broadcast: NBC
Kickoff: Nov. 12, 8:20 p.m.
NEW YORK JETS (4-3)
The Jets fell back to Earth after a three-game winning streak by losing 27-6 to the Los Angeles Chargers Monday night. Zach Wilson was 33 of 49 passing for 263 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked eight times. Yes. Eight times. Breece Hall rushed 16 times for 50 yards. Garrett Wilson caught seven passes for 80 yards. The defense sacked Justin Herbert five times and held the Chargers to just 84 yards on the ground.
LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (4-5)
The Raiders are just the latest team to win a game after shedding a bloated, cancerous tick of a head coach. New interim head coach Antonio Pearce won his first game, a dominating 30-6 victory over the New York Giants last week. Rookie Aiden O’Connell was 16 of 25 passing for 209 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. Josh Jacobs rushed 26 times for 98 yards and two scores. Tre Tucker caught two passes for 52 yards. The defense sacked Tommy Devito and Daniel Jones eight times combined and picked off two passes.
THE PICK
Is it possible Las Vegas has figured it out or is it just that they were so happy McDaniels was fired over the castle wall? Who can say? New York is significantly better, across the roster, and considering O’Connell is a rookie, he and Wilson are basically a push. Jets 23, Raiders 16
