THANKSGIVING DAY FOOTBALL 2: LAS VEGAS RAIDERS AT DALLAS COWBOYS

BY ADAM GREENE

Right after Jon Gruden was fired, this game looked intensely interesting sitting on the Thanksgiving schedule. The Las Vegas Raiders were playing better, inspired football as if they’d had a cancer shaped like a ship’s anchor removed. Then, of course, everything else happened and there’s no reason to rehash it. I’m trying to write fun NFL previews here and the Las Vegas horror show is detrimental to that.

Now, the Raiders have to be longingly looking forward to the offseason as they travel to AT&T Stadium to take on a Dallas Cowboys team that’s lost two of its last three.

This will just be the 13th meeting all time between the two franchises. They’re tied 6-6 with Dallas claiming the last three in a row. They last faced off in 2017 with the Cowboys pocketing a 20-17 win in Oakland. Dak Prescott threw for 212 yards, no touchdowns and two picks. Derek Carr was good for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS AT DALLAS COWBOYS (-9, O/U: 51)

Location: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas

Broadcast: CBS

Kickoff: Nov. 25, 4:30 p.m.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (5-5)

After looking like a playoff team or even potential AFC West champions after the first seven weeks of the season, the wheels have come off and are now cruising down four different lanes of the highway for the Raiders. They’ve lost three straight, with the last two being particularly ugly. On Sunday, the Cincinnati Bengals trashed them 32-13. Carr threw for 215 yards, a touchdown and a pick, but Las Vegas had no running game to speak of. Darren Waller caught seven passes for 116 yards. The defense sacked Joe Burrow three times.

DALLAS COWBOYS (7-3)

Mike McCarthy is proving time and again that he’s still the same guy he’s always been, as his team has wilted under the lights after a strong start to the season. Last week, in a measuring stick game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas forgot to bring their stick, losing 19-9. Prescott threw for 216 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. The Cowboys rushed a combined 16 times for just 82 yards between Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. The defense sacked Patrick Mahomes three times and picked him off once.

THE PICK

It’s difficult to see Las Vegas winning another game against any halfway decent team this season. They’ve suffered pretty much every type of awful distraction they could this year and there’s still eight weeks to go. As for Dallas, McCarthy’s stink has finally infiltrated the team just like it has every men’s room he’s ever stepped foot inside. I think the Cowboys win, but don’t cover. Cowboys 27, Raiders 20
