THANKSGIVING DAY GAME 3: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS

BY ADAM GREENE

If you’re anything like me, then watching the New England Patriots lose Thanksgiving night is the perfect way to officially start your Christmas Holiday season. Unfortunately, we don’t have Santa potentially delivering that present, but Kirk Cousins, as he and the Minnesota Vikings host the Pats in the Turkey Day nightcap on NBC.

This will just be the 14th time these two franchises have faced off against each other. New England leads the series 9-4 and has won the last five, coincidentally, all after Tom Brady took over at quarterback for the Patriots. They last locked horns on Dec. 2, 2018, with New England winning 24-10. Brady (now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) finished 24 of 32 for 311 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the victory. Sony Michel (now with the Los Angeles Chargers) had 17 carries for 63 yards. James White (no longer in the NFL) rushed for 26 yards and caught seven passes for 92 yards.

In the loss, Kirk Cousins was 32 of 44 for 201 yards, one touchdown and two picks. Dalvin Cook rushed for 82 yards and caught eight passes for 22 yards. Stefon Diggs (now with the Buffalo Bills) caught five passes for 49 yards.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (6-4)

New England won what had to be the worst game of the season (and that’s saying a lot, considering what the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos have put on the field), defeating the New York Jets 10-3 in a game that set NFL offenses back a century. Mac Jones, somehow, completed 23 of 27 passing for 246 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked six times. Damien Harris rushed eight times for 65 yards. Rhamondre Stevenson had 26 yards rushing and led the receivers with six catches for 56 yards.

The defense sacked Zach Wilson four times, held him to 77 yards passing and the entire Jets offense to 59 yards on the ground.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS (8-2)

Speaking of bad offenses, the Vikings unleashed their worst performance of the season last week, falling at home, 40-3, to the Dallas Cowboys. Kirk Cousins was awful, finishing 12 of 23 for 105 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked seven times. Dalvin Cook had 11 carries for 72 yards.

The defense never laid a glove on Dak Prescott and did not force a turnover.

THE PICK

Much has been said, written and tweeted (while Twitter is still functioning) about Kirk Cousins’ poor performances in featured and prime time games. Last week certainly doesn’t help, but if Kevin O’Connell and Cousins can’t team up to beat a team as bad as the Pats, just hang it up. They are wasting America’s time (and breaking our hearts). Vikings 27, Patriots 13
