THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: LOS ANGELES RAMS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

BY ADAM GREENE

For the first time since Week 1, the NFL brings us a Thursday night game we actually want to see. The Los Angeles Rams, fresh off their first loss of the season, travel to Lumen Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks in a game that will absolutely have playoff implications down the road.

With as much success as the Seahawks have had since moving to the NFC West in 2002 (they’ve made three trips to the Super Bowl and won one), the Rams have been a consistent problem for them. Since 2014, Los Angeles is 10-5 against Seattle and a lot of that goes back to the Jeff Fisher era. Sean McVay is 6-3 when facing the Seahawks, including a 30-20 victory in the playoffs last year with Jared Goff playing with a broken thumb.

The Rams defense held Wilson to just 11 of 27 passing for 174 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Cam Akers rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown. In spite of that, Seattle leads the all time series 25-22.

LOS ANGELES RAMS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (+2.5, O/U: 54.5)

Location: Lumen Field, Seattle, Wash.

Broadcast: NFL Network/FOX

Kickoff: Oct. 7, 8:20 p.m.

LOS ANGELES RAMS (3-1)

The Rams enter this game after a well earned ass whipping at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. Matthew Stafford fell back to earth a bit, completing 26 of 41 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. The defense was a sieve, giving up 37 points and 465 yards in the loss. While LA did score 20 and Darrell Henderson Jr. was solid in his return, rushing for 89 yards, it was not as close as the final score shows.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (2-2)

Seattle all but saved its season with a 28-21 win over the home standing San Francisco 49ers last Sunday. Russell Wilson has run roughshod over the Niners since he took over as the Seahawks starting QB and last week was no different. He didn’t have to put up elite numbers, but his 16 of 23 for 149 yards and two touchdowns were plenty. The defense sacked Jimmy Garoppolo once and got an interception, eventually knocking him from the game.

THE PICK

This game is all about last week. The Seahawks are no longer in desperation mode as they evened up their record against an NFC West opponent. LA, after winning September, now finds itself on the ropes after their worst showing of 2021 on both sides of the ball. Stafford and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris both need bounce back performances. I’m not sure about Morris, but I like Stafford’s chances with McVay and a match up that’s always been trouble for Seattle. Rams 27, Seahawks 24
