Under Review Show – Week 17 Preview

Last week’s Triple Teaseburger didn’t cash, so the Under Review crew is back to the drawing board for the regular season finale. Don’t feel too bad for the guys though as other bets like Green Bay moneyline cashed to make it a very Merry Christmas. The Triple Teaseburger has cashed in six of the last nine weeks too, so you’d be in the black if you’ve been tailing these selections all year.

Under Review Show – The Aftermath December 24

Two of last week’s three legs cashed with relative ease. Houston won on the road against Tampa Bay to clinch the AFC South, and the Texans covered the teaser number. They pushed per the NFL betting odds, but getting the extra touchdown meant they were ahead of the teaser number the whole way in a 23-20 win.

The original idea to tease both sides of Baltimore and Cleveland would have paid off on both ends. Baltimore was -10 on the road against Cleveland at BetOnline, and the Ravens won 31-15 to cover the teaser both ways. However, the Ravens were the only side the Under Review hosts took in the Triple Teaseburger, and that ended up biting them as Seattle laid an egg once again.

The Seahawks were favored by 9.5 points at home against Arizona, and it made sense to tease Seattle because of the value in crossing four key numbers. However, Seattle has been one of the most fortunate teams all year. This team should not be as good as its record indicates, and Arizona showed why in a 27-13 victory in the Emerald City.

We’re starting the Week 17 Teaseburger off with a homer pick. Green Bay is laying 12.5 points on the road against Detroit, so teasing the Packers gives you Green Bay -5.5 against the moribund Lions. Detroit has just one win in its last 12 games, and the Lions have packed it in with UDFA David Blough under center. This offense is a shell of itself without Matthew Stafford, and Detroit hasn’t scored more than 20 points in each of its last five games.

Meanwhile, the Packers need to win this game to lock up a first-round bye. Green Bay is competing with New Orleans, San Francisco, and Seattle for a bye into the Divisional Round, and a loss would likely leave the Packers playing on Wild Card Weekend. The Packers only beat Detroit by one point on Monday Night Football back in Week 6, but the Lions have tanked since that game.

There was some discussion on taking Houston for the second leg. The Texans are getting 3.5 points at home against the Tennessee Titans, but Houston shouldn’t have much to play for on Sunday. If Kansas City beats the Los Angeles Chargers earlier in the day, the Texans are guaranteed to be the No. 4 seed in the AFC no matter what they do against the Titans.

Instead, the Chiefs are the second leg of this week’s Teaseburger. Kansas City is laying 8.5 points at home against the Chargers at BetOnline, so teasing the Chiefs would move this line down to 1.5 points. This teaser crosses four key numbers, and the Chiefs are going to be motivated to win this game. A victory gives them at least the No. 3 seed and a shot at the No. 2 seed if Miami somehow beats New England, and Kansas City wants to avoid Baltimore. The Chiefs have already gone into New England and defeated the Patriots, so that’s the Divisional Round matchup they want in two weeks.

The Under Review hosts are hedging their bets a little bit with this pick though, realizing that there could be tremendous value on Houston with a Chargers upset. If you parlay the Chargers’ and Texans’ moneylines together, a $100 bet returns well over $800, so this is a side play.

The last pick of the week is San Francisco. After Seattle cost them a winning Teaseburger in Week 16, the Under Review hosts are excited to go against the Seahawks and teasing the Niners moves this line from San Francisco -3 to San Francisco +4.
