The last Triple Teaseburger of the regular season failed to cash. As it usually goes with a losing Teaseburger, two of the legs came in fine as San Francisco covered the spread against Seattle and Kansas City had little trouble getting past the LA Charges at home. Unfortunately, Green Bay failed to live up to its bargain, resulting in a loss for the Under Review hosts. The Packers were favorited by 12.5 points on the road in Detroit with a first-round bye on the line, but they needed to overcome a 17-3 halftime deficit to escape with a 23-20 victory, failing to cover the teaser line of 5.5 points in the process. Hope springs eternal in the postseason though, and despite the limited slate, there will be a Triple Teaseburger play this week.
Our hosts are all on board with the first two legs of the Wild Card Weekend Teaseburger. In the first game of the playoffs, Buffalo is getting 2.5 points on the road against Houston, and everyone loves the Bills in this spot. This is a great teaser number as you are crossing four key numbers to get the Bills +9.5, and there is a chance this can be Buffalo +10 prior to kickoff with the NFL betting odds moving in favor of the Texans.
The Bills have been one of the toughest teams in the league this season. Buffalo went 10-6 to make its second postseason appearance of the last two decades, and the Bills stayed within a touchdown in four of their five losses. They have one of the better running offenses in the playoffs thanks to a quarterback that excels running the football, and Houston is allowing 4.8 YPC this campaign.
Buffalo has a First Team All-Pro cornerback that can slow down Deandre Hopkins in Tre’Davious White, and injuries to both Kenny Stills and Will Fuller will likely limit their production on Saturday afternoon. The Bills defense has been very good this year, and they should keep it within a score against the Texans.
The second leg of this week’s Teaseburger is the biggest no brainer on the board. New Orleans is -8 in the Superdome against Minnesota and teasing the Saints at BetOnline would move this line all the way down to NO -1. The Saints have been aching for revenge against the Vikings after the Minnesota Miracle a couple years ago, and this game presents a great opportunity to run it up.
Minnesota is not the same team we saw at the start of the year. Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, and Adam Thielen are all banged up, and the offense has been in a funk for over a month. Cook had been somewhat ineffective in his most recent outings before the injury, and Kirk Cousins has fallen into some of his old habits.
Meanwhile, Michael Thomas and the Saints are rolling. Thomas became the most prolific receiver in NFL history by setting the single-season reception record in Week 16, and he will be targeted repeatedly by Drew Brees. This offense is humming, and this is an excellent teaser bet.
Deciding on the third leg of the Wild Card Weekend Teaseburger was tricky. None of the hosts wanted to bet on or against Seattle given its up and down nature and its propensity to ruin Teaseburgers in previous weeks, so that left New England and Tennessee’s clash as the only other available game to use.
New England is favored by five points over Tennessee at BetOnline, and there is little value in teasing this number. You only cross two key numbers if you tease the Patriots, but that was the pick despite being a considerably worse teaser play than Tennessee. The forecast calls for rain to fall in Boston throughout the day on Saturday, creating the conditions that would lead Derrick Henry to thrive. Henry was the league’s leading rusher, and he is a bruiser that will wear you down over the course of 60 minutes.
The Patriots’ pedigree is too much for two of the three hosts to ignore though, so that has the Under Review Podcast taking New England in the final leg of the teaser. All New England needs to do is win to cover the number, and the Patriots haven’t disappointed on that front.
