Every Sunday morning, the NFL’s national reporters unload injury news and other tidbits to inform our gambling decisions. Here are some of the top news items and what they mean.
PLAYERS RULED OUT
T.Y. Hilton, A.J. Green and Will Fuller had an outside shot to return, but it will be at least another week. The Lions will start Jeff Driskel again. Joe Staley’s return lasted just a week as he’ll miss several weeks after finger surgery. Marshon Lattimore’s absence should help Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Devonta Freeman’s absence means Brian Hill will start in Atlanta.
EAGLES LOSE JORDAN HOWARD, GAIN JAY AJAYI
Howard isn’t expected to miss much time, but he won’t go this week. The newly-signed Ajayi will be active just two days after signing. Darren Sproles is also on IR so Ajayi will split carries with Miles Sanders and Boston Scott. Ajayi last appeared in Week 5 of 2018.
GEORGE KITTLE (SF) OUT AGAIN
Kittle is feeling fantastic, but not fantastic enough to play this weekend. He’s missed two games but could return as early as next week. Ross Dwelley will take his place against the Cardinals, who are regularly beaten by tight ends.
MARQUISE BROWN (BAL) WILL PLAY
Brown is a regular on the injury report, but he’s expected to play in his third straight game. He’ll face a Houston secondary that’s giving up 277.3 passing yards per game. Only the Bucs, Raiders and Cardinals allow more.
DAVID MONTGOMERY (CHI) A GAME-TIME DECISION
It would be an inopportune time for Montgomery to sit since the Bears recently waived Mike Davis. Without Montgomery, the Bears would rely on Tarik Cohen and Ryan Nall, an undrafted second-year back out of Oregon State who has never touched the ball in a regular season game.
LE’VEON BELL (NYJ) EXPECTED TO PLAY
Bell was on the injury report last week with a knee issue. This week he’s battling a rib injury and an illness. The word is he’ll fight through his various ailments. He has a good matchup against the Redskins, who rank 28th in rushing yards allowed per game with 136.
LAREMY TUNSIL (HOU) TO RETURN
Tunsil missed Week 9 and managed to get healthy during the Week 10 bye. The Texans will need their starting left tackle in a huge game against Baltimore. Considering the Ravens only have 16 sacks this season (fourth-fewest in the league) Watson should be relatively safe.
49ERS WILL HAVE EMMANUEL SANDERS, WON’T HAVE MATT BREIDA
Sanders will help the offense as it looked lost without him and George Kittle on Monday night. Sanders didn’t sound super confident in his health, so the possibility of him limping off in the first quarter is very real. Breida’s absence will mean more snaps for Tevin Coleman and probably increased roles for Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson.
