Myles Garrett may have claimed the NFL’s top defensive prize last year, but several pass rushers are challenging the Browns’ defensive end for the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award. Among the top contenders are T.J. Watt and Aidan Hutchinson.

Since entering the NFL in 2017, T.J. Watt has quickly made a name for himself as a dominant force on defense. The Pittsburgh Steelers star, who already has a DPOY title under his belt, aims to add a second to his resume in the 2024-25 season.

Following a standout performance against Denver, Watt is one of the early favorites heading into Week 3.

Aidan Hutchinson (+350)

Detroit Lions’ defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is making waves early in the season. The former second-overall draft pick from Michigan has already accumulated 4.5 sacks in the Lions’ Week 2 loss to Tampa Bay, almost halfway to his sack total from the previous year. Entering his third season, Hutchinson looks set for a breakout year in 2024.

T.J. Watt (+400)

T.J. Watt has begun the 2024 season just as he ended 2023 — on a high note. After leading the NFL in sacks with 19 last year, Watt continues to impress. In the Steelers’ first two wins of this season, he recorded one sack and two solo tackles during a dominant defensive effort against the Denver Broncos, who managed to score only six points.

Watt previously won the DPOY award in 2021, and if it weren’t for injuries in 2022, he would have been a serious contender to repeat.

Micah Parsons (+600)

After winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, Micah Parsons remains a consistent threat on defense for the Dallas Cowboys. Parsons set the tone for Dallas last season with 16 sacks and a pass-rushing grade of 93.7, according to Pro Football Focus. He continues to disrupt opposing offenses in 2024, with five solo tackles and a sack in Dallas’ first two games.
