The NFL offseason has featured a number of huge events, but none bigger than the decision everyone was waiting for: Tom Brady\u2019s decision on his 2020 team. He spurned the New England Patriots and left them behind after nearly two full decades with the team. Brady won six Super Bowls and reached nine of them with the Patriots, but he wanted to divorce Bill Belichick and try something new. He switched conferences, going to the NFC. He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which means that home games will be warm-weather games instead of the brutal cold he played in with the Patriots in January. As Brady moves into a very new situation with a team which has not made the playoffs in several years, everything will be uncertain and hard to predict. One of the numerous questions connected to Brady is the way in which he will try to attack opposing defenses. In New England, Brady threw lots of short passes. This was partly a product of not having as many high-end receivers as he would have liked, but it was also an effective way to neutralize an opposing pass rush and make sure Brady didn\u2019t take a lot of hard hits. As Brady ages, the need to avoid hard hits is still there. However, he now has a lot of quality receivers in Tampa, chiefly Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Now that he has better receivers, Brady might try to challenge defenses down the field a lot more often. Yet, he might have grown so comfortable as a short-pass quarterback that he won\u2019t throw large numbers of downfield passes. The philosophy used by Brady might be the main determinant of whether he throws a large number of interceptions or a small one. He doesn\u2019t have the arm strength he once possessed. He was hurt for portions of last season, so being healthy might help him. If Brady is to reach 4,350 yards for the full regular season, that means he will have to average close to 275 yards per game, in all 16 games. Yes, there will probably be a shootout or two in which Brady will throw for 350 or 400 yards, but do the Bucs have the running game or offensive line to support a sustainable and strong offense throughout a season? There will probably be several games in which Brady throws 175 to 200 yards. It is asking a lot of him to constantly exceed 250 passing yards per game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n OVER 32.5: -115<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n UNDER 32.5: -115<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It is going to be very difficult for Brady to throw for over 4,350 yards, but touchdown passes don\u2019t require length. They only require opportunity. If Brady and the Bucs move the ball a lot during the season, which is a reasonable-enough expectation, they will get a lot of red-zone opportunities in which Brady could throw a bunch of two-yard touchdown passes. Brady probably won\u2019t want to risk getting hit on short runs, so the idea that he will throw tons of short passes makes sense.
