The AFC North produced just one playoff team this past season: the Baltimore Ravens. The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to join the Ravens in the postseason but they did have a miserable year in which injuries \u2013 chiefly to Ben Roethlisberger \u2013 got in the way of their plans. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns, who were the favorite in the AFC North at one point last offseason, completely fell flat on their face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taking a look ahead to 2020, let\u2019s examine the regular season win totals<\/a> for the four teams in the AFC North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PITTSBURGH STEELERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2020 REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 9.5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Steelers did not get much out of the tight end position last season, so they knew they had to be proactive. Getting tight end Eric Ebron, who is hugely talented but never did max out in Indianapolis or Detroit, is a great move. The Steelers have someone who can be a big target for Ben Roethlisberger and boost the Steelers\u2019 passing game, which suffered last year not just because Big Ben was out of the lineup, but because the receiver room after the departure of Antonio Brown was also in disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Steelers also signed offensive lineman Stefan Wisniewski to a new deal. They acquired defensive end Chris Wormley. They made some modest improvements which, combined with the return of Big Ben, should enable them to attain a strong win-loss record in the coming season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BALTIMORE RAVENS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2020 REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 11.5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ravens didn\u2019t really need to do too much in the offseason \u2013 not after winning 14 games in 2019 and getting the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Ravens had 12 players in the Pro Bowl, an astounding number. They had to find some targeted needs and were able to meet that relatively modest standard for a successful offseason. The biggest move the Ravens made was to get Calais Campbell in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars. An already-loaded Baltimore defense just got even better. The Ravens also kept Jimmy Smith with the team and signed Derek Wolfe from the Denver Broncos. They lost Michael Brockers to the Los Angeles Rams, but the Wolfe signing fills that gap. The Ravens have maintained a high-quality roster and should be ready to win a ton of games in the coming season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CLEVELAND BROWNS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2020 REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 8.5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Browns had a very solid free agency period. They gave Baker Mayfield a good backup quarterback, Case Keenum. They gave Mayfield a quality tight end, Austin Hooper, who had played with the Atlanta Falcons. They also provided Mayfield an elite offensive lineman, Jack Conklin, who had played for the AFC runner-up Tennessee Titans. The Browns added several solid pieces in an attempt to get things right under first-year coach Kevin Stefanski, who has to be pleased with these offseason developments. Cleveland should win more games than it did in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CINCINNATI BENGALS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2020 REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 5.5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bengals beefed up their defensive line with the signing of D.J. Reader. They grabbed two former Minnesota Vikings to put in their secondary: Mackensie Alexander and Trae Waynes. They will soon draft Joe Burrow with the No. 1 pick to get a franchise-caliber quarterback.
