The coming college football season will feature a number of high-profile dramas. The Mountain West is a little more off the beaten path, but it will still be intriguing to see if anyone can bump off Boise State in the Mountain West\u2019s Mountain Division. Let\u2019s take a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BOISE STATE BRONCOS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n ODDS: -225<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Broncos are the unquestioned colossus of the division, having won the Mountain West Mountain championship in four of the last six seasons and in each of the past three years. Boise State has consistently developed the best pass rush and the best defensive line in the Mountain West Conference, but most of the defensive line has to be replaced this year. BSU develops players well, so this year will test the Broncos\u2019 ability to create new anchors on the defensive line. With a returning starting quarterback, the passing game should remain highly competent, giving Boise State the combination of muscle and finesse needed to outmaneuver its opponents once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n AIR FORCE FALCONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n ODDS: +350<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Falcons have a returning starting quarterback who is also an upperclassman. They are deep at running back and have two of the best offensive linemen in the nation. Coach Troy Calhoun, one of the better offensive minds in college football, has routinely made bowl games and won eight or nine games per season in Colorado Springs. With a loaded offense, there is no reason to believe that Air Force won\u2019t contend for the division championship this season. Air Force will get its shot at Boise State and \u2013 if the Falcons can play their best game \u2013 will have a real chance to create a surprise in the division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WYOMING COWBOYS<\/strong> The Cowboys were 2-4 in one-score games this past season, while Boise State was 5-1. There is a feeling among some people who cover the Mountain West that Wyoming could sneak up on Boise and steal the division. Wyoming is still trying to find added pieces on offense since Josh Allen went to the NFL and the Buffalo Bills. If the Cowboys\u2019 passing game exceeds expectations, it could all come together for coach Craig Bohl. Wyoming is underpriced; this is great value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n COLORADO STATE RAMS<\/strong> The Rams have a new coach, Steve Addazio, who comes from Boston College to continue his coaching career in a more low-profile setting. The short story on the Rams is that the offense is stacked, with a returning starting quarterback and a deep group of high-quality wide receivers. Colorado State has become known as a developer of elite wide receiver talent, the most recent example being Michael Gallup of the Dallas Cowboys. The defense, however, is depleted and not particularly talented. Expect a ton of shootouts\u2026 and don\u2019t expect CSU to withstand the defense of Boise State or Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n UTAH STATE AGGIES<\/strong> The Aggies have to find a replacement for NFL first-round draft choice Jordan Love, the quarterback surprisingly taken by the Green Bay Packers. Everything else is secondary to the quarterback spot. This is not a reload and take aim situation. The Aggies have to face the reality that they are in a rebuilding mode in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NEW MEXICO LOBOS<\/strong> The Lobos have a first-year head coach, Danny Gonzales, who spent the past few years at Arizona State and San Diego State as a defensive coordinator. This is a complete rebuild with a gutted roster. Previous coach Bob Davie ran into personal problems late in his tenure which caused recruiting to fall off a cliff. UNM won\u2019t be anywhere near the division title chase.
