It\u2019s been brewing for years and each time the public pressure isn\u2019t enough for a couple of cornerstone professional sports franchises to bend and do the right thing. Morality and decency just weren\u2019t enough to make the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians change their mascots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it turns out there\u2019s something more powerful than the satisfaction of making a sane, obvious moral choice. And that\u2019s the threat of losing money<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n FedEx, who currently owns the naming rights to Washington\u2019s stadium decided they\u2019d no longer like to be associated with the<\/a> \u201cRedskins.\u201d The next shoe to drop (and don\u2019t you dare forgive the pun) was Nike pulling \u201cRedskins\u201d merchandise from its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Cleveland Indians, at this point seemingly out of the conversation, realized the writing was on the wall and went ahead and publicly stated that they too were looking into a new team name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
