Only 70 golfers will advance to the BMW Championship next week, so everyone on the cusp of missing out is looking for a strong finish in order to make the next event. Bryson DeChambeau is the favorite to win<\/a> the 2020 Northern Trust with odds of 10-1, and he is followed by Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Xander Schauffele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Thomas has a significant lead in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He is over 500 points ahead of Collin Morikawa in the rankings, and that earned him a $2 million bonus. Thomas is out to become just the third golfer to win the FedEx Cup multiple times since its inception in 2007, joining Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TPC Boston has never hosted the Northern Trust, but veteran golfers are familiar with this course. The Deutsche Bank Championship was played here from 2003 to 2016, and the Dell Technologies Championship was contested here in 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McIlroy won at TPC Boston in 2012 and 2016, becoming only the second golfer to win at this course multiple times after Vijay Singh. Thomas won this event by three strokes in 2017, and Bryson DeChambeau was the most recent champion in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gil Hanse added plenty of difficulty when he redesigned this course in 2007. It was originally seen as one of the easiest courses on the PGA Tour, but he made it significantly more difficult by adding elevated greens, blind landing shots, and more challenging bunkers. Big hitters will be at an advantage here as there are three par 5s where the green can be reached in two shots. There are five par 4s that are at least 465 yards, and that distance has made DeChambeau the favorite<\/a> per the PGA Tour betting odds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Value Play to Win the Event: Collin Morikawa +2000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2020 PGA Championship winner is 20-1 to win the Northern Open despite being second in the FedEx Cup rankings. Morikawa took last week off to fully appreciate his first major, and he is the type of boom or bust player you want when betting winners. In his seven events since the PGA Tour resumed, he has two wins and a runner-up finish, while his next best finish was a T20 at the WGC Invitational. Morikawa has been great with his irons this season, and that will help him set up birdie attempts on tricky greens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top 10 Prop: Bryson DeChambeau +150<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This course plays into DeChambeau\u2019s strengths. He will be able to create birdie attempts that the other top players won\u2019t be able to replicate due to his power, and he is the reigning champion at TPC Boston after defeating Justin Rose by two strokes two years ago. DeChambeau has eight top ten finishes in his last ten starts, and he shook off disappointing performances at the Memorial and the WGC Invitational with a T4 at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
