Dustin Johnson\u2019s victory at the Northern Trust last week propelled him into the top spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Johnson had been 15th<\/sup> in the standings, almost 1,400 points behind Justin Thomas prior to last week\u2019s win, but now he is in the catbird\u2019s seat with two tournaments left in the 2019-20 PGA Tour season. That has led to him being the favorite<\/a> per the PGA Tour betting odds at the BMW Championship outside of Chicago, Illinois this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas\u2019 T49 finish at TPC Boston last week led to him falling behind Johnson in the FedEx Cup standings. Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, and Im Sung-jae were all in the top five heading into last week\u2019s event, but each golfer fell three spots after missing the cut at the Northern Trust. Webb Simpson managed to hold on to the No. 3 spot with a T6 finish, but he is likely to drop this week as he has pulled out of the BMW Championship in order to focus on the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club is considered one of the 100 best courses in the world by Golf Digest. It was designed almost 100 years ago, and it is rather long for a par-70. The layout doesn\u2019t punish big hitters for letting it rip as much as other courses, so it pays to let it fly here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There hasn\u2019t been a PGA Tour event at Olympia Fields since 2003 when the U.S. Open took place here. However, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm do have prior experience with this course as it was the site of the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship. DeChambeau won that event and also won the NCAA Championship to join Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods as four of the five players to complete the feat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Value Play to Win the Event: Bryson DeChambeau +1200<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeChambeau has failed to make it to the weekend in two of the last four events, but he was on fire prior to missing the cut at the Memorial. He had registered seven straight T8 finishes before that outing, and he is still largely in great form after a T4 finish at the PGA Championship earlier this month. His power makes him a great bet at 12-1<\/a> to win the BMW Championship, as does his previous success on this course as an amateur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top 10 Prop: Xander Schauffele +165<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last two months, Schauffele has been pretty consistent. He has finished T15 or better in four of five events, and the one exception was a T25 at last week\u2019s Northern Trust. The field is much narrower for this tournament as there are 70 golfers instead of 125, and the absence of Webb Simpson will make it easier for Schauffele to break into the top ten. Schauffele hasn\u2019t won an event since early 2019, but he continues to post good scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
