Thursday night arrives once more with another game so bad that none of the NFL\u2019s broadcast networks want it. The Miami Dolphins travel across the state to face the Jacksonville Jaguars and their smattering of fans in a contest that, barring a league-wide injury and COVID-19 catastrophe, will have no bearing at all on the postseason. And, yes, I\u2019m saying that in Week Three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NFL Network is your only source for this one as FOX has seen fit to air a season four sneak peak of The Masked Singer. Not the premier of the Masked Singer. Oh no. A \u201csneak peak.\u201d There\u2019s also some show called Filthy Rich starring Kim Catrall that will be cancelled before the leaves turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CBS has eschewed their NFL coverage for reality game shows, one of which I\u2019m pretty sure you win a person. Or an STD. Or Both. Big Brother, Love Island and then a rerun of Star Trek: Discovery from two years ago are keeping the Tiffany Network from beaming this game into your living room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NBC? Why they\u2019re inviting you to watch a show called Council of Dads and I won\u2019t even bother looking up what it\u2019s about because I\u2019d rather get a poison dart in the neck than Google it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, this game is lacking on the marquee, but we\u2019re watching it. And for some of us, there\u2019s money to be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MIAMI<\/strong> DOLPHINS AT JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (-2.5, O\/U: 48)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Location: TIAA Bank Field, Jacksonville, Fla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kickoff: Sept. 24, 8:20 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Broadcast: NFL Network<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Dolphins and Jaguars have met nine times since Jacksonville entered the league in 1995. Their first match up came in 1998, a 28-21 Jags win. They last played each other in 2018, with Jacksonville again claiming victory, this time 17-7. The Jaguars lead the all time series 5-4 and have won the last two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MIAMI<\/strong> DOLPHINS (0-2)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In spite of everyone in the country begging head coach Brian Flores to start Tua Tagovailoa, he\u2019s sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback. After a disastrous Week One performance against the New England Patriots, Fitz bounced back for a solid game against the Buffalo Bills. He completed 31 of 47 for 323 yards and two touchdowns and they still lost, 31-28, for all the good it did. Meanwhile, say with a potential star rookie under center, some real progress could have been made in that guy\u2019s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n JACKSONVILLE<\/strong> JAGUARS (1-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Are the Jaguars a decent team? Are they the best of the bad teams? It\u2019s hard to say, but what we can know with certainty is that if their plan was to tank the season in hopes of landing Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick, they\u2019re going to fail. Because second-year quarterback Gardner Minshew II is doing everything he can to keep his job. After leading a near-perfect upset of the Indianapolis Colts in Week One, Minshew nearly did it again, falling three points short against the Tennessee Titans. Minshew was good for 30 of 45 for 339 yards, three touchdowns and two picks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n While no one is excited about these teams outside of their respective fanbases, this should still be an entertaining game. Both Minshew and Fitzpatrick like to sling it and do so with abandon. This could be a game where both guys toss for 300, three TDs and multiple interceptions. I like Jacksonville to win a shootout.
