The COVID-19 pandemic caused this event to be pushed back from late May and early June to late September and early October, and that means fatigue shouldn’t be as much of an issue over this grueling two-week tournament. We’ll see whether that means a new face will be lifting the trophy for either the men or women at Roland Garros. The 2020 French Open will start on September 27 and run until October 11.

2020 Men’s French Open Odds

Rafael Nadal +110
Novak Djokovic +170
Dominic Thiem +450
Stefanos Tsitsipas +3000
All Other Players are +4000 or More

No player has ever dominated a Grand Slam like Rafael Nadal has the French Open. Nadal is the greatest clay court player of all-time, and he is still close to an odds-on favorite per the tennis betting odds even though he is in the twilight of his career. He has won an absurd 12 French Open titles, and he has only lost twice at Roland Garros over the last 15 years. Perhaps even more incredibly, Nadal has never needed more than four sets in the French Open Finals.

His most recent loss came to Novak Djokovic in 2015. Djokovic had to wait until the next year to complete his career Grand Slam, but he is the best player in the world at the moment. He is pretty fresh after being ejected from the US Open last month, and that could be a difference maker in what would be his second French Open title. Nadal has a 17-7 all-time record against Djokovic on clay, but Djokovic has 17 career majors to his name.

Roger Federer will skip the French Open as he recovers from a knee injury, depriving tennis fans of the three men that have dominated the sport for the last two decades. Those heavyweights are almost always the three favorites entering any tournament, but Dominic Thiem is taking Federer’s place as the last big favorite at Roland Garros. Thiem is red hot after overcoming a 2-0 deficit to defeat Alexander Zverev at the US Open for his first major.

If you like anyone else at the French Open, you can get incredible dog odds on them. Every other player outside of the top three is 30-1 or more on the men’s side.

2020 Women’s French Open Odds

Simona Halep +230
Garbine Muguruza +575
Victoria Azarenka +900
Serena Williams +1000
Elina Svitolina +1500
All Other Players are +2000 or More

The women’s bracket isn’t as top heavy as the men’s bracket. Defending champion Ashleigh Barty decided not to participate in this year’s French Open for safety reasons, and recent Grand Slam winners Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu will miss the tournament as they recover from injury.

That has led to Simona Halep being made the favorite per the women’s tennis betting odds. Halep won the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon, but she is notoriously boom or bust in Grand Slam events. She hasn’t made it past the second round of the US Open since 2016, and she was bounced in the quarterfinals of last year’s French Open. Halep is the No. 1 seed though, and that will give her a favorable draw.

Garbine Muguruza is the No. 11 seed, but she is the second favorite. She won the 2016 French Open, and she has been impressive on clay court throughout her career. However, she has been even more hit or miss than Halep, as she has failed to make it past the fourth round in seven of her last eight Grand Slam appearances.

No. 2 seed Karolina Pliskova might be an interesting bet at 22-1. Pliskova made it to the semifinals of the 2017 French Open, and she is hungry as she has yet to win a major in her career.

Follow our Twitter account for the latest sports news and wagering odds, and come to our Instagram for more useful betting info too.

This year’s French Open won’t be played under the blazing sun during the summer.
