The Deep South\u2019s Oldest Rivalry will come a little earlier than expected this year. Georgia and Auburn will meet between the hedges this Saturday in the only battle between top ten teams this week. The Bulldogs are favored by almost a touchdown<\/a> per the CFB betting odds against the Tigers, but there are many who think Auburn can pull off the upset after Georgia looked shaky against Arkansas last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia has won three straight games in this series and six of the last seven. Auburn has had a very difficult time scoring on the Bulldogs in recent years, failing to top 14 points in all six of their losses. That has led to a lot of low scoring games, and all six of Georgia\u2019s most recent victories saw no more than 41 points scored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia Offense vs. Auburn Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs have a quarterback problem. Jamie Newman was projected to be the starting quarterback before opting out of the 2020 season, leaving Georgia in a bind. Their predicament was worsened when it was announced that J.T. Daniels had yet to be cleared before the season opener against Arkansas, leaving the Bulldogs with D\u2019Wan Mathis and Stetson Bennett IV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathis got the start, but he was ineffective. He was pulled at halftime with the Razorbacks leading 7-5, and the game was entrusted to Bennett. The 5\u201911 junior that was originally a walk-on immediately lit a spark under the offense, completing 20 of 29 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia went on to score 32 points after halftime, so Bennett is likely to start even though Daniels has been cleared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirby Smart will certainly look to run the ball as much as possible to take the pressure off whoever is under center. The Bulldogs ran the ball 42 times against the Razorbacks in their season opener, but they were only able to pick up 2.9 YPC. If that holds against Auburn this week, then Georgia will be at a major disadvantage. When they do look to move the ball through the air, the Tigers must watch out for George Pickens, who is one of the most talented receivers in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auburn did have a bit of a tough time stopping Kentucky last week. The Tigers allowed the Wildcats to accumulate nearly 400 total yards of offense, but three turnovers and two turnovers on downs led to Kentucky only scoring 13 points. Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson, and Noah Igbinoghene are all playing on Sundays, and the Tigers are replacing their entire secondary from last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auburn Offense vs. Georgia Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bo Nix was efficient against Kentucky last week. He completed 16 of 27 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns, while running for 34 yards. The second-year quarterback is expected to take off in the second year of Gus Malzahn\u2019s system, as he showed some real potential as a freshman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Tigers\u2019 inability to run the ball against the Wildcats is alarming. Auburn averaged 3.0 YPC on the afternoon, as the inexperienced offensive line had its share of struggles. This unit has not had much time to gel due to injuries, so some issues were expected, but Georgia will be a significant step up in terms of talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seth Williams is one player that Georgia must watch out for throughout Saturday. Williams caught six passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns against the Wildcats, building on his impressive sophomore year. The rest of these receivers are pretty talented too, making this arguably the best position group on offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia\u2019s defense was lights out against Arkansas. The Bulldogs surrendered just 280 yards and forced three turnovers on the day. They were directly responsible for nine points via a pick-six and a safety, and it will be very difficult to run the ball on this front. This program recruits so well that they are in the Alabama tier of reloading instead of rebuilding, and the defense is outstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prediction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs have routinely gotten the better of the Tigers over the last decade, as Georgia\u2019s defense has been able to stop Malzahn\u2019s offense cold most years. That is likely to happen again this week, so lay the points with Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
