After a one-game respite where the NFL delivered a quality Thursday Night Football contest two weeks ago, we\u2019re right back to garbage time as the New York Giants travel to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While you can blame injuries for the lackluster Monday Night Football match ups this year, this TNF game never had a chance. The Eagles might be surprisingly bad, but no one outside of Joe Judge\u2019s mom would have expected the Giants to be anything other than a one-win team six games into the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NEW YORK GIANTS AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (-4.5, O.U: 45)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Location:<\/strong> Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kickoff:<\/strong> Oct. 22, 8:20 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Broadcast:<\/strong> FOX\/NFL Network<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This is one of the NFL\u2019s oldest rivalries, going all the way back to 1933. The Giants dominated that first-ever match up on Oct. 15, 1933, 56-10. It would be their fourth ever game against each other that would see Philadelphia pick up their first victory in the series, a plodding 6-0 defensive struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This game will be the 175th<\/sup> meeting between the two franchises, with the Eagles enjoying a slight edge, 87-85-2, all thanks to a current seven game win streak over the G-Men. In fact, Philadelphia has won 20 of the last 23 going all the way back to 2008. The two teams last met on Dec. 29, 2019 with Philly picking up a 34-17 win. Carson Wentz finished 23 of 40 for 289 yards and a touchdown. Daniel Jones was 28 of 47 for 301 yards, one TD and a pick. He was sacked four times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NEW YORK<\/strong> GIANTS (1-5)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Giants have been a surprisingly spunky bad team this season. They arguably have the worst roster in the NFL, but they\u2019ve played every single team close this season, finally picking up their first win, a 20-19 victory, over the Washington Football Team last Sunday. Daniel Jones, surprisingly, did most of his damage on the ground, rushing seven times for 74 yards. He finished 12 of 19 passing for 112 yards, one touchdown and one interception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PHILADELPHIA<\/strong> EAGLES (1-4-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Like the Giants, the Eagles too have suffered their share of close loss heartbreak, but they don\u2019t have the roster to blame it on. This team isn\u2019t that different from the one that won the Super Bowl in 2017, save for a coordinator and back up quarterback. There\u2019s no excuse for Philadelphia to be this bad, which just makes following them more frustrating. They should be able to turn it on and finish 9-7 at least, but they\u2019ve not shown any indication that they can do it on both sides of the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last week they dropped another single score affair to the Baltimore Ravens, 30-28. Wentz finished 21 of 40 for 213 yards and two touchdowns in the comeback attempt and added 49 yards and a score on the ground. Miles Sanders rushed for 118 yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n You want to say that somebody has to win this game, but the Eagles disproved that when they tied with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week Two. Still, I\u2019m not so cynical that I believe some five-win team will take the NFC East. A seven-win team? Maybe. It\u2019s time to start piling a few wins up.
