Are we kidding with this one? Monday Night Football might just have a clash action lawsuit on its hands against the NFL after putting both garbage New York teams on in back to back weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This time, it\u2019s the New England Patriots, their season on the line, traveling to the deadly confines of MetLife Stadium (where more ACLs have been torn than games won) to take on the league\u2019s worst team by a wide margin, the New York Jets on MNF. I feel sorry for Steve Levy, Brian Grease and Louis Riddick, but more importantly, I feel sorry for all of us. Because it\u2019s NFL football and we\u2019re still going to watch it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NEW<\/strong> ENGLAND<\/strong> PATRIOTS AT NEW YORK JETS (+8.5, O\/U: 41.5)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Location:<\/strong> MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kickoff:<\/strong> Nov. 9, 8:15 p.m. EST<\/p>\n\n\n\n Broadcast:<\/strong> ESPN<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Patriots and Jets are two of the AFL\u2019s founding franchises, as such they\u2019ve played a lot, but few of the games were particularly memorable. New England has the lead in the all-time series, 67-54-1, but not a sizable one considering the Pats were complete trash for the first 20 years of their existence while the Jets were one of the AFL\/NFL\u2019s premier franchises with Joe Namath at quarterback. In fact, New York was so popular they were featured in the first-ever Monday Night Football game in the broadcast\u2019s history on September 21, 1970, a 31-21 loss to the Cleveland Browns. The Patriots wouldn\u2019t make the prime time cut until two years later, getting knocked off by the Baltimore Colts 24-17 on Nov. 6, 1972.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They\u2019ve shockingly met in the playoffs three times, the first in the 1985 Wild Card game that New England won 26-14. The Patriots would go on to the Super Bowl to be embarrassingly crushed by the Chicago Bears and one of the best defenses in NFL history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It would be 22 years before they\u2019d cross paths in the postseason again, this time the Tom Brady led Pats knocked off New York 37-16. They\u2019d hook up again in 2011, with the Mark Sanchez-led Jets getting the better of New England, 28-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The last time the two teams met was Oct. 21, 2019 when the Patriots blew out New York 33-0. Tom Brady finished 31 of 45 for 249 yards, one touchdown and a pick while Sam Darnold was technically there and got to watch some of it when he wasn\u2019t on the field. The Pats are riding an eight game win streak over the Jets and have won all but four of their games against New York in the last decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NEW<\/strong> ENGLAND<\/strong> PATRIOTS (2-5)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Pats are currently in the midst of a four-game losing streak and just dropped an AFC East match up with the Buffalo Bills, 24-21. Cam Newton was 15 of 25 for 174 yards passing in the game, but coughed the ball up on a fumble on what should have been at least the game-tying drive. Damien Harris rushed 16 times for 102 yards and a touchdown in the loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NEW<\/strong> YORK<\/strong> JETS (0-8)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Jets have been abysmal this season and are the worst team in the NFL. They\u2019ve scored a total of 19 points over their last three games and were blasted by the Kansas City Chiefs 35-9 last week in a contest that shouldn\u2019t have been that close. Sam Darnold was a forgettable 18 of 30 for 133 yards and New York rushed for 93 yards as a team while their defense surrendered five touchdown passes to Patrick Mahomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This game will be no contest and the only way the Jets stand a chance is if the entire New England squad goes into COVID-19 protocol over the next couple of days. I\u2019m still not writing the Pats\u2019 eulogy just yet and nothing fixes what ails ya better than a game against New York.
