One of the best college football traditions in the United States takes place on the second weekend of December. Army plays Navy in a game that typically is fully in the spotlight, but this year there are dozens of games alongside it. The constantly reshuffled college football schedule has meant that the Midshipmen and Black Knights won\u2019t draw the big numbers it typically does as the only game in town, but there are still millions that will opt into the pageantry that is the Army-Navy Game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

College Football Betting Odds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Navy +7<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Army -7<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Total 37.5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This will be Army\u2019s first game in three weeks. The Black Knights were last on the field back on November 21. They squeaked past Georgia Southern with a 28-27 victory to move to 7-2 on the year, and that\u2019s why they are favored by almost a touchdown<\/a> against the Midshipmen. Navy is just 3-6 on the year, and the Midshipmen haven\u2019t won a game by more than four points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Army Offense vs. Navy Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n These teams are extremely familiar with one another given the types of systems they run. Army has run the triple option very well this year. It\u2019s vital to have an athletic quarterback that\u2019s a great decision maker in this offense, and the Black Knights have had two solid pivot men in Christian Anderson and Jemel Jones. However, both Jones and Anderson are injured, leading to former scout team running back Tyhier Tyler running the offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyler hasn\u2019t been as explosive as Jones, but he has been a better runner than Anderson. Tyler has carried the ball 73 times for 344 yards (4.7 YPC), and his play has helped Army average 296.0 YPG on the ground. He has only thrown two passes, so the Black Knights are in trouble if they have to take to the air, but that\u2019s typically the case with this offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Black Knights are averaging 4.9 YPC, and they run the ball more often than any other team in college football. Jakobi Buchanan leads the team with 383 yards (4.4 YPC), while Tyrell Robinson is a home run hitter. Anthony Adkins has great speed even with his frame, and Sandon McCoy can pick up the tough yards on goal line or short yardage situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Navy has done a poor job stopping the run this year. Ken Niumatalolo\u2019s decision to eschew tackling in the summer backfired in the worst way, and that\u2019s a big reason why the Midshipmen are 3-6 SU and 4-5 ATS. This team is allowing 5.3 YPC and 212.6 YPG on the ground, and they aren\u2019t creating a lot of havoc plays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Navy Offense vs. Army Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After failing to cover three of their last four games<\/a>, Navy is hoping to end their season on a high note. The Midshipmen have had a hard time scoring though, tallying just 13 points to Memphis and Tulsa in their two games since returning to the field following a COVID outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Navy has started three different quarterbacks this season, and none of the trio have found much success in this system. The Midshipmen have one of the worst offenses in the country, averaging 18.4 PPG and 292.7 YPG. The ground game is only running for 3.7 YPC, and the quarterbacks have been sacked 23 times on 140 dropbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dalen Morris and Tyger Goslin have not been bad passers in this system, but they have failed to be effective runners. That has led to Xavier Arline taking over at quarterback. Arline has been the best runner of the three, yet he has only run the ball 38 times for 126 yards in this system. That\u2019s not good in the triple option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Black Knights have been solid on defense this year. Army is allowing just 18.7 PPG and 296.2 YPG.
