There\u2019s an argument to be made that the New York Jets 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams could be the Bad Beat of the Year, based solely on what it cost both teams. For the Rams, the humiliation of being the team that the Jets knocked off could only be tempered by hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy at this point and no one believes that\u2019s going to happen after Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After all, New York was a +1000 moneyline to win over a -17.5 point favorite and pulled it off. According to Pro Football Focus, it\u2019s the biggest outright win of the last decade<\/a> and for that, maybe among everything else, LA should be sorely ashamed. A win would have put the Rams into the playoffs too after a year of watching the postseason on the couch. It was a bad day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I mean, the NFL and Youtube apps kept threatening me with the highlights from the game all Monday morning and all I can say to that is\u2026 THE AUDACITY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No one wants to see that again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As for the Jets, the win knocked them from the top spot in next April\u2019s NFL draft to No. 2 behind the Jacksonville Jaguars. The first pick, of course, is going to be Trevor Lawrence and it\u2019s rare to get as sure fire a pro prospect at quarterback fall into your lap. It\u2019s rarer still to knock yourselves out of selecting him on purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But, no, the fortunes of the Rams and Jets are of no concern to us here at the Bad Beat. Short of your usual straight up bets, parlays and futures bet of a Jets winless season, nothing, betting wise, happened in that game unless you plunked the cash down on that +1000 moneyline. In which case, the post COVID-19 vaccine beers are on you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This was a week that took a while for the Bad Beat to manifest itself, with plenty of teams managing nothing more than a push as they angle for their own draft or playoff positioning. That was not the case for the Bad Beat of the week as we got a possible playoff preview with the Seattle<\/strong> Seahawks outlasting the Washington Football Team 20-15<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like the Rams vs Jets game, it should not have been that close. Unlike the Rams and Jets game, Washington at least has a good coaching staff and something to play for. But as someone who clicked confirm on your bet at Seahawks -6 as they continued to battle for the NFC West crown, you were feeling pretty good about your chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As the clock ticked over to the fourth quarter, you were in cruise mode. Seattle was up 20-3. Washington QB Dwayne Haskins had already tossed a couple of interceptions and the WFT couldn\u2019t pull him. He might be the only healthy quarterback on the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So it was with increasing horror as you watched the last 20 minutes of the game play out. Haskins, who had run a total of six offensive plays in the second half, suddenly became unstoppable. He reeled off a 14-play, 96 (!) yard drive that culminated in a 13 yard TD pass to Logan Thomas right before the third ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It wasn\u2019t heartening to be sure, but your dreams of spending the remainder of the coronovirus pandemic locked in your mancave enjoying your new Sony 85 inch x900 LED 4K UHD Smart Android TV<\/a> were still very much on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n All you needed was Russell Wilson to play like the MVP candidate he was just over a month ago and, at worst, eat up this last quarter of clock. Seattle was up 20-9. You still had your six points with five to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Six plays later Wilson tossed an interception to Daron Payne at the WFT 36.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Haskins remained hot, playing as if his livelihood literally hung on every throw and 11 plays later he hit J.D.
