Sunday Night Football picked the only game they could show in the prime time hour that would have a definable playoff result not impacted by any other game on the schedule. And, God help us, we are all poorer for it as the Washington Football Team tries to secure the NFC East when they travel to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WASHINGTON<\/strong> FOOTBALL TEAM AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (+3, O\/U: 43.5)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Location:<\/strong> Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Penn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kickoff:<\/strong> Jan. 3, 8:30 p.m. EST<\/p>\n\n\n\n Broadcast:<\/strong> NBC<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Eagles and WFT, regardless of their home and mascot, have been facing off since 1934. As such, this will be the 172nd<\/sup> all time meeting between the two franchises. Washington has an 87-79-5 advantage in the series and won their last contest 27-17 to open the season. At the time, that seemed like a shockingly bad loss for Philadelphia. And that is hilarious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before that \u201csurprising\u201d defeat, the Philly had won six straight. And before that, WFT won five straight. This has not exactly been a back-and-forth rivalry in the 2010s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In WFT\u2019s Sep. 13 victory, Dwayne Haskins threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and led his squad to 13 fourth quarter points. Carson Wentz threw for 270 yards, two touchdowns and two picks in the loss. Neither man will start Sunday\u2019s game and I\u2019m pretty sure Haskins has a shift at Fudrucker\u2019s so he won\u2019t even get to watch the game on TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WASHINGTON<\/strong> FOOTBALL TEAM (6-9)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Washington is battling for the NFC East title in spite of losing two straight, which is as lame as it sounds. Last week they fell 20-13 to the Carolina Panthers in a game that could have sewn it up for them and given the rest of us hope a team with a losing record won\u2019t make the playoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dwayne Haskins Jr. threw for 154 yards and two interceptions in the loss and was cut by the team the next day since he was trying to develop his own COVID-19\/Herpes hybrid and infect the rest of the team. Taylor Heinicke finished the game with 137 yards and a TD and is slated to start Sunday. J.D. McKissic caught eight passes for 77 yards and TD. The defense sacked Teddy Bridgwater four times and forced three turnovers. And they still lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PHILADELPHIA<\/strong> EAGLES (4-10-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jalen Hurts may have given the Eagles a shot in the arm a few weeks ago, but the wins haven\u2019 come. They\u2019ve also lost their last two including a 37-17 beat down at the pathetic hands of the Dallas Cowboys last week. Jalen Hurts threw for 342 yards, one touchdown and two picks in the loss and rushed for 69 yards. DeSean Jackson caught one pass for 81 yards and a TD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n As pumped as everyone is over Hurts, he\u2019s still a rookie and flubbing up a lot. According to Pro Football Focus, his passer rating over the last three weeks is 49.6, which puts him at No. 36 out of the 38 QBs that have taken the field in that span<\/a>. Alex Smith has practiced this week and could even get the start for Washington. Let\u2019s all hope so.
