The top golfers in the world are split between the West Coast and the Middle East again this week. Many of the top players outside of North America are taking part in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, while everyone else playing in the last week of January will be in beautiful San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open. Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy are the two favorites<\/a> to win this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rahm is the overall favorite here, and he has performed great in this event recently. He finished runner-up to Marc Leishman by a single stroke last year, and he dusted the competition by three strokes back in 2017. Rahm hasn\u2019t teed off since the Sentry Tournament of Champions due to a sore back, but he has finished T2, T7, and T7 in his last three events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leishman is someone to keep an eye<\/a> on too. He won this tournament last year and finished runner-up in both 2010 and 2014. He is in good form with a T8 and a T4 in two of his last three tournaments, and he was able to rest last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tournament takes place on both the North and South courses at Torrey Pines. Golfers play on one course on Thursday and the other on Friday before everyone that makes the cut converges on the South Course for the final two rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Open is scheduled to be played at Torrey Pines this year, making this tournament good practice for anyone with eyes on the major. This venue hosted the major in 2008, and Tiger Woods won a thriller over Rocco Mediate despite playing on a torn ACL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While San Diego is known for its consistently beautiful weather, the elements will be in play on Friday. The forecast calls for plenty of rain and possible thunderstorms before reverting back to being sunny with clear skies over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Value Play to Win the Tournament: Hideki Matsuyama +2500<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matsuyama has really struggled with his short game recently. He currently ranks outside the top 200 in terms of putting, while ranking in the top 50 in every other major statistical category. That has led to Matsuyama having 25-1<\/a> odds to win the Farmers Insurance Open. Matsuyama is one of the best players from tee to green though, and he placed third here in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top 5 Prop: Sungjae Im +700<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Im finished T2 at the Masters in November and T5 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this month. He has only missed the cut one time in 11 tournaments this season. While he hasn\u2019t been competitive in his two previous appearances in this event, there is reason to believe he could be in the running on Sunday after finishing T12 at The American Express.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
