Players competed in the first round of the tournament, but it was called off after Thursday as the entire sports world and life in general shut down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That means the defending champion is Rory McIlroy. McIlroy beat Ponte Vedra resident Jim Furyk by one stroke in 2019. Webb Simpson and Jason Day each won this event by four strokes over the last five years, and Kim Si-Woo beat two golfers by three strokes in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n TPC at Sawgrass is home to perhaps the most iconic hole in the United States. The par-3 17th<\/sup> hole is legendary for being a nerve-rattling hole with incredible aesthetics because it is an island green. Dozens of golfers will miss the green or have their balls roll into the water over the course of the four-day tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This course is more than just the 17th<\/sup> though. The 18th<\/sup> hole is tough with water down the left side, and there are some tough holes in the front nine too. Interestingly, the unique layout of the course means that no consecutive holes are ever played in the same direction. He has finished T21 in eight of the nine events he has entered this season, and he has been at his best in the biggest events.
