Similar to other teams in the MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers slugged their way through a sloppy and confusing 2020 season. The Brewers were able to accomplish a few firsts in franchise history such as making it into the postseason for the third straight year. Things aren\u2019t looking good for them to extend that streak, though, as this team is going to need to vastly improve upon a few areas to remain competitive. Will we see a competitive Milwaukee team or are they going to disappoint?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What Happened Last Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Milwaukee had marched their way into the postseason despite having a losing record on the year, just 29-31. They had the unfortunate luck of facing off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Wild Card Series, losing 2-0 to the eventual World Series Champions. The Brewers were one of the worst offenses in the league last year also, ranking 12th<\/sup> in runs scored and 11th<\/sup> in total hits throughout the NL. Christian Yelich had an underwhelming year just a few years separated from an MVP award, but the team is hoping that he returns to his normal self this upcoming season. They benefited from a very weak NL Central division, but had it been a little more competitive they likely wouldn\u2019t have made it into the playoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Offseason Changes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Brewers had made their splash in free agency with the signing of Kolten Wong. The team picked him up on a two-year contract with a club option for a total of $18 million. At the start of the offseason, it was apparent that Milwaukee was interested in the two-time Gold Glover and they capitalized on that interest. Milwaukee also found a way to lure Jackie Bradley Jr. into the fold on a two-year, $24 million deal of his own. The last move that garnered a lot of attention to this team was the addition of Daniel Robertson. He is bound to help this teams defense in a number of areas, but fans had mixed feelings over the deal. Each of these moves are bound to help this Milwaukee team that struggled in multiple areas of the game last season and are looking for reinforcements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2021 Outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This Milwaukee Brewers team is expected to boast a different type of roster this upcoming season. Instead of surrounding their team with hitting talent, they have been trying to improve then pitching and defense. Similarly, to last season, the Brewers will probably not be the best hitting team in the league in fact they will not be anywhere near that mark. This organization would rather play excellent defense and provide solid pitching instead of trying to knock it out of the park consistently. If their pitching isn\u2019t able to hold up, then their hitting won\u2019t be able to give them a boost and cause them to struggle more than they have to.
