The Texas Rangers were one of the teams that found themselves making a few moves in the offseason but it shouldn\u2019t be enough to keep them in contention this upcoming year. The Rangers are kind of in the middle of the pack in terms of talent and didn\u2019t make enough moves to fix all of the holes that they need. Will the Rangers continue to rebuild, or will they surprise everyone and come out of the gates hot?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What Happened Last Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Rangers missed the postseason with a very disappointing 22-38 record, the second worst in the entire MLB. Injuries were a very big part of their downfall last year though, losing some of their top players like Corey Kluber after just one inning this year, completely damaging their rotation that was built to contend for a playoff spot. The team was also very bad when playing on the road, just 6-24 on the year. But they were able to get some stellar play out of Lance Lynn, who finished with a 3.32 ERA and a 2.3 bWAR. His play was part of the reason why they finished 16-14 at home, a huge difference from their play on the road. Texas was all over the place last year and will badly need to clean some things up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Offseason Changes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite Lynn playing very well, he was quickly traded at the start of the offseason in exchange for Dane Dunning and Avery Weems from the Chicago White Sox. Then they kept the ball rolling by acquiring Nate Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays and it widely expected to be the teams opening starter at first base. Then finally they looked to free agency and sought out David Dahl. While it doesn\u2019t seem like a high-profile move, he could provide the team with a low risk, high reward type of signing. He was awful during the MLB\u2019s shortened season, but a chance of scenery and a full year of play could definitely change his fortunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2021 Outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Last year was just the start of their rebuild and 2021 will more than likely continue that trend. The Rangers don\u2019t have that talented of a roster right now and with the moves they made during the offseason it is easy to see that this team wants to slowly pick up more assets. Fans of this team can expect a few trades at the deadline if the team isn\u2019t able to get any type of success early on and could possibly see this year end just like the last one, towards the bottom of the standings. It doesn\u2019t seem likely that they will be able to take down some of the other teams in their division in order to make the postseason either.
