There is already a lot of discussion on social media and among the NFL draft experts who do this stuff for a living that Zach Wilson should not be valued above Justin Fields. Yet, it seems the New York Jets are intent on taking Wilson with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft. More on Wilson and other risky offensive picks can be found below:

Zach Wilson, Quarterback, BYU

The first thing which needs to be said about Zach Wilson is that he lost to Coastal Carolina this past college football season, in a game which was marked by the struggles of the BYU offense. BYU scored just 17 points against a team from the Sun Belt Conference. It’s true that Coastal Carolina was a very good team last season, but there’s no way a No. 2 pick in the NFL draft should score just two touchdowns against a team from the Sun Belt. Wilson is certainly a creative playmaker who can make big-time throws when he leaves the pocket. He is elusive and can improvise, which are very necessary skills for an elite quarterback. However, his dropback passing skills and his ability to read defenses are very much in question. There are other quarterbacks in this draft who throw a better ball and are more consistent in the pocket as downfield passers. Wilson is not worth a No. 2 pick. He probably isn’t even worth a top-six pick at the very least. The first team on the draft board which should give Wilson a serious thought is Detroit at No. 7.

Mac Jones, Quarterback, Alabama

The simple reality about Mac Jones is exactly what you think it is: This guy had DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle to throw to, behind an elite offensive line which is going to have at least three players taken in the draft, maybe four. Jones was surrounded by all the right tools and resources. He had high-quality players at every roster spot at Alabama, including running back Najee Harris. Alabama will have at least five players picked in the first round. Jones is not a top-five player, and he probably isn’t even worth a first-round pick.

Trey Sermon, Running Back, Ohio State

The reality surrounding Sermon – who transferred from Oklahoma to Ohio State to get more playing time – is that he isn’t extremely fast. He is powerful and can get two yards on third and one, but he doesn’t have breakaway speed and will be limited in terms of catching passes out of the backfield. He has a more reduced skill set than other running backs teams will choose from in the first three to four rounds of the draft.

Brevin Jordan, Tight End, Miami

Jordan would make a decent pick in the late third or early fourth round, but if teams are going for him in the second round or the early portion of the third round, that would be a reach. He still needs to work on making difficult 50-50 catches in the air. Other tight ends with similarly projected positions on the draft board possess that skill to a greater extent than Jordan does. Teams don’t want to grab Jordan too early in the draft.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Wide Receiver, USC

The USC receiver is not especially tall or strong. He is reasonably fast, but it will be hard for him to outright opposing cornerbacks on contested catches. Some talent evaluators think he is a top-12 or top-15 receiver. That might be too optimistic. He might be worth taking as the No. 20 receiver on the board, a few dozen picks later than currently projected.

The 2021 NFL draft is on April 29, and you know there will be a ton of discussion about the…

[129

post-16786","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl
["GET
