There were no preseason games last year in the pandemic, but preseason games are back this summer. In the NFC East, Dak Prescott is healthy again. Lots of changes have occurred, though, so let’s go through the more significant offseason developments for each team.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys drafted six straight defensive players before they finally took an offensive player this year. The Cowboys’ first-round pick was linebacker Micah Parsons of Penn State. One of the steals of the draft could be linebacker Jabril Cox of LSU, who fell dozens of spots on the board before the Cowboys scooped him up.

In free agency, the Cowboys lost backup quarterback Andy Dalton to the Bears and edge rusher Aldon Smith to the Seahawks. They lost cornerback Chidobe Awuzie to the Bengals and linebacker Joe Thomas to the Texans. However, Dallas picked up right tackle Ty Nsekhe from the Bills and safety Keanu Neal from the Falcons. The Cowboys also acquired defensive lineman Brent Urban from the Bears and punter Bryan Anger from the Texans.

Another big change in Big D: Mike Nolan is out as defensive coordinator, replaced by former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn. This could be the most important change of all, given how bad Dallas’ defense was last season.

Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team won the NFC East last year, but with a 7-9 record. Dak Prescott’s return makes the Cowboys the clear favorite in the division. Washington’s biggest offseason move was getting Ryan Fitzpatrick as starting quarterback. Last year, Dwayne Haskins bombed as the team’s starter. Alex Smith filled in and did well, leading the team to a playoff spot thanks to a late-season surge, but Smith retired from playing football in the offseason.

Washington lost edge rusher Ryan Kerrigan to the rival Eagles in the NFC East, but picked up offensive lineman Ereck Flowers from the Dolphins. Washington gained receiver Adam Humphries from the Titans but lost cornerback Ronald Darby to the Broncos. Washington got receiver Curtis Samuel from the Panthers but lost linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis to the Texans.

Washington picked linebacker Jamin Davis of Kentucky and offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi of Texas.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles grabbed Ryan Kerrigan from Washington, but that was hardly the biggest transaction of a wild offseason for the Eagles.

Quarterback Carson Wentz went to the Indianapolis Colts to reunite with former offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who helped Wentz play his best with the Eagles en route to a No. 1 seed in the NFC. Nick Foles then won three playoff games to win the Super Bowl championship.

The Eagles brought in a new head coach, Nick Sirianni, firing Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Pederson.

The Eagles grabbed safety Anthony Harris from the Vikings and running back Kerryon Johnson from the Lions. They lost receiver DeSean Jackson to the Rams safety Jalen Mills to the Patriots.

New York Giants

The Giants got some resources for quarterback Daniel Jones, getting receiver Kenny Golladay from the Lions in free agency and receiver Kadarius Toney in the NFL draft. The Giants also got receiver John Ross from the Bengals. Ross has often been injured, but if he gets healthy, he could be a sneaky-good addition for the Giants.

Big Blue lost offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler to the Ravens and defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson to the Vikings.

The pro football community is taking a break before summer training camp and the upcoming preseason.
