The stacked card for UFC 264 features a ton of well-known fighters around the UFC, including a few fan favorites that are sure to garner a ton of attention. It will b e taking place on Saturday, July 10th<\/sup> in Las Vegas, Nevada and the headline act will be the return of Conor McGregor. He’s coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier and his starpower has lost some luster. Let’s take a closer look at that bout as well as two other key fights from the main card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odds: McGregor -111<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main card for UFC 264 features the third match between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. These two initially faced off in 2014 in the featherweight, with McGregor taking that contest. Then they went for round two earlier this year at UFC 257 when Poirier took that fight handily. Now they prepare for the tie breaker. Each of these fighters know each other very well, in fact they are incredibly close friends outside of the sport. Here you could definitely expect a fighting masterclass, as they each do a lot well inside the octogen. Without a doubt this is going to be the most exciting fight of the night, with McGregor entering as the early favorite. Although, Poirier showed that he can take down McGregor already and could be looking to silence his doubters once more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilbert Burns vs. Stephen Thompson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson<\/a> will be facing off in a welterweight bout during UFC 264. Burns is entering the match with a 19-4-0 career record, though is coming off of a tough KO loss at the hands of Kamaru Usman during UFC 258. Thompson holds a 16-4-1 record throughout his career and was able to pick up a decision victory over Geoff Neal earlier in the year at UFC Fight Night. Each fighter has strong striking capabilities and have similar reaches. Thompson is also a little more experienced, as he is 38 years old while Burns is just 34. Looking at the matchup on paper, these two should end up having a very exciting fight when this event rolls around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sean O\u2019Malley vs. Louis Smolka<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sean O\u2019Malley and Louis Smolka continue this event with their fight. O\u2019Malley enters with a 13-1-0 record and was last seen back in UFC 260, when he knocked out Thomas Almeida in the third round. There have even been a few people claiming that fight was his best throughout his career. It was a tremendous bounce back performance for him, as he suffered his first and only loss right before that to Marlon Vera. Smolka has suffered a few more losses but has an impressive track record against fighters with O\u2019Malley\u2019s fighting style. He is 17-7-0 in his career but was cut by the UFC back in 2017. He did end up returning a year later but has since been 3-2. This fight is bound to be a good one as O\u2019Malley has turned himself into a fan favorite in the UFC with his unique style and spinning kicks. Smolka may not have a great record in recent years but has shown the potential to be a devastating fighter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
