The franchise with the most 2021 weeks atop the list has returned to the No. 1 spot while the bottom of the rankings remain nearly unchanged and have since Week 1.

1. ARIZONA CARDINALS (8-1)

The Cardinals had every excuse to fold up without Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins and JJ Watt in the line up. Instead, they knocked off the San Francisco 49ers and reclaimed the top spot in the Power Rankings. Last week: No. 3

2. TENNESSEE TITANS (7-2)

The Titans defensive line dominated the Rams Sunday night, bringing back PTSD flashbacks for LA QB Matthew Stafford from his days in Detroit. Jeffrey Simmons ate David Edwards’ lunch, popped the bag in his face then asked his wife what she was doing later. Last week: No. 5

3. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (6-2)

The week off was good for the Bucs as they got to heal up their secondary, figure out what went wrong against the New Orleans Saints and prepare to lay a solid beat down on the Washington Football Team. Last week: No. 4

4. LOS ANGELES RAMS (7-2)

The first time the Rams were No. 1 in the Power Rankings, they lost. The second time they were ranked No. 1, they lost. The secret for LA then becomes not being perceived as the best team in the NFL for that week and they’ll be good. LA and Tampa Bay are actually in very similar situations. Both their losses are to good teams, which isn’t disastrous. What is disastrous is neither loss (in the Rams’ case, to the Titans and Cards) were close. The Bucs had the same problem with the Saints and these same Rams. Last week: No. 1

5. GREEN BAY PACKERS (7-2)

Aaron Rodgers was more contrite Tuesday in his second appearance on the Pat McAfee show after a weekend of backlash over his COVID-19 vaccination lies and flouting of the NFL’s safety protocols. There’s a chance he could play Sunday if he tests negative and has no symptoms Saturday. As for what that will look like post 10 days fighting off a deadly disease, regardless of Joe Rogan’s advice, is anyone’s guess. What can’t be disputed is that the Packers lost to the Chiefs 13-7 last week specifically because Rodgers’ “personal choices” kept him from playing. The loss also knocked them from the top spot in the NFC playoff rankings. Last week: No. 2

6. BALTIMORE RAVENS (6-2)

It’s not been pretty most of the season, but the Ravens continue to win now that they, for the most part, run an actual NFL offense. It’s taken a league-leading four fourth quarter comebacks from Lamar Jackson to get here, which has already set a Baltimore franchise record. But that stat also tells you this team is a play away per game from being 2-6. Last week: No. 9

7. DALLAS COWBOYS (6-2)

In a weekend of upsets, the Cowboys didn’t suffer the worst one, but they can’t be happy to have seemingly been at full strength and been dominated by a Denver Broncos squad that just traded away their best player. Last week: No. 6

8. PITTSBURGH STEELERS (5-3)

The referees added a serious assist in getting the Steelers past a spunky Chicago Bears team Monday night. Pittsburgh was written off early and the media has even attempted to hire away its head coach, but all they’ve done since is win. Last week: No. 12

9. BUFFALO BILLS (5-3)

While the Rams and Cowboys may have soiled the sheets Sunday, the Bills never even made it to the bed before losing control of their bowels. Buffalo was still considered the best team in the AFC before last Sunday and might still be, which means that entire conference is a free for all come playoff time. Last week: No. 7

10. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (5-3)

Justin Herbert picked up his first AFC Offensive Player of the Week award, throwing for 356 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Last week: No. 13

11. CLEVELAND BROWNS (5-4)

I guess the secret for winning with Baker Mayfield is not to get behind in the first place. A lot has been made over Mayfield’s success without Odell Beckham Jr. on the field, but I don’t see how that made a difference since he never threw the ball to him anyway. Last week: No. 17

12. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (5-3)

To find a way to lose in the last second to a team that’s taken losing in the final seconds to its scientific extreme was a legitimate accomplishment. Whether they field Trevor Siemian or Taysom Hill, they’ll have their hands full against a Titans team currently holding AFC supremacy. Last week: No. 11

13. CINCINNATI BENGALS (5-4)

The Bangals had a chance to bounce back from their worst loss of the season to the New York Jets and decided to go ahead and lay down in front of a Browns bulldozer last Sunday. After holding the AFC’s top seed a few weeks ago, if the playoffs started today Cincinnati would be watching at home on their Barcaloungers. Last week: No. 8

14. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (5-4)

The Chiefs season was going down the toilet three weeks ago. They’ve not gotten any better and yet still are not only in the playoff hunt, but could find their way back into the Super Bowl simply because the AFC is a crapshoot. This could be the wildest playoff bracket in NFL history. Last week: No. 14

15. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (5-4)

New England posted back to back wins, they currently hold down an AFC playoff seed and Mac Jones is unquestionably performing the best out of all the rookie quarterbacks. And he’s doing it with middling offensive talent around him. Last week: No. 15

16. DENVER BRONCOS (5-4)

So much for tossing in the towel by trading away Von Miller. Denver’s victory over Dallas shows that Vic Fangio still knows something about coaching defense. Or that Mike McCarthy was involved too much in the Cowboys’ offense. It could have been a blend of the two. Last week: No. 16

17. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (5-3)

Every week it just gets worse for the Raiders, yet they are somehow still fighting this season. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (4-5)

The Colts are getting a lot of national media love after beating the Jets last Thursday. In the AFC, anything can happen with eight-ish games to go, but they’ll need to do more than knock off the league’s cellar dwellers to be a factor in January. Last week: No. 19

19. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (3-5)

Russell Wilson returns just in time to face a post-Covid-19 Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Six losses at this point, with so many NFC West games to go, might doom the Seahawks so this is pretty much a must win game. They’ll have most of America rooting for them at the very least. Last week: No. 21

20. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (3-5)

The 49ers have a similar defensive line as the Tennessee Titans, which probably has the Rams’ David Edwards re-adjusting his pants right about now. Like the Seahawks, San Francisco can’t afford to take another loss this early and remain in contention. They face an LA team on Monday night that their head coach and quarterback have dominated over the last two seasons. Last week: No. 18

21. ATLANTA FALCONS (4-4)

The only people more shocked than I was that the Falcons found a way to win in the last minute Sunday were probably on the Falcons. Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat has not been in this team’s DNA for the last half decade or so. Last week: No. 25

22. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (3-5)

Dalvin Cook has made news all week in the worst way at the worst possible time. This is a team that’s barely hanging on as it is. Last week: No. 23

23. CAROLINA PANTHERS (4-5)

With his reported injury, the Panthers finally found the excuse they needed to bench Sam Darnold. PJ Walker will get the start for the next four weeks just to show that Carolina doesn’t have a winning QB on its roster. Last week: No. 20

24. CHICAGO BEARS (3-6)

At this point we’ve all seen and shared all the referee memes, but one thing is clear about NFL officiating this season – it’s been abysmal. This has been replacement ref level and the league needs to hold its officials accountable. And the first thing they need to do is fire Tony Corrente. He should never work an NFL game again. That all being said, Chicago showed up to play Monday night, for whatever good it did. I wasn’t a big “Fire Matt Nagy” guy in the preseason, but honestly at this point, I think a divorce would probably be good for all involved. There are far too many quality coaches coming available this offseason to sit around on your hands if you’re Chicago. Last week: No. 22

25. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (3-6)

The Eagles mystery still remains, but I have figured one thing out about them — They consistently play just well enough to lose close. They did it without Tua Tagovailoa, who might still be out Thursday when they host the Baltimore Ravens. Tagovailoa needs to get back out there, not only to attempt to finally win some lasting love from Miami, but to show me that I haven’t learned to spell his name without looking it up every time for nothing. Last week: No. 29

28. WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (2-6)

The Washington Football Team was off last week on a bye and no one even noticed. I literally just now had to look it up to make sure.
