New England Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones has now led his team to five consecutive victories and you can’t even dump on the competition, as two of those wins came over the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cleveland Browns.

The rest have been against garbage teams, at least when the Pats played them. The Carolina Panthers’ 2021 future is certainly on the upswing with the return of Cam Newton. And, honestly, you can thank Mac Jones for that one too, Panthers. Mac and Cam, which is exactly the same written backwards, were the two highest graded QBs in the NFL preseason. Jones was vaccinated and ultimately New England rightly decided to roll with a guy that should be the future of the franchise and not cost them a game or two on the COVID-19 protocol.

Newton, then, was unvaccinated, but has since fixed that and will soon have the Panthers on track for a playoff spot. It’s a wild year.

Anyway, the Pats knocked off the Atlanta Falcons as predicted, but with much more ease as Matt Ryan has decided to turn into Jared Goff. Which is ironic, since Goff was compared to Ryan coming out of Cal back in 2016. Atlanta was shut out at home, 25-0, for the first time since 1988 and if you ever needed an excuse to blow up that roster and start over, there it is.

We have just two teams on byes this week. The Denver Broncos get seven days to decide if it’s in their best interests to keep playing for a postseason spot this season, and the Los Angeles Rams, who have never needed a bye more in their history to regroup and actually work in their new star players.

Byes: Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams

DETROIT LIONS AT CLEVELAND BROWNS (-11.5, O/U: 43.5)

Here’s what makes me nervous about this game. Jared Goff is apparently hurt, or the Lions are pretending he is and are threatening to start some dude named Tim Boyle, who’s the kind of guy who I would forget his name the very second he introduced himself to me. So what does that mean? That this spread is scary and I don’t like it, but there’s just no excuse for Cleveland not to win this one at home. Even with Baker Mayfield banged up too. Browns 24, Lions 13

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS AT JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (+6, O/U: 45)

For San Francisco, facing off against the Jaguars on the road is probably the next best thing to hosting the Los Angeles Rams at home. All the NIners have to do is play like they did last week and they should walk right into the sixth or seventh seed in the NFC playoffs. Unfortunately, they seem to only show up that way consistently when they play the Rams. Regardless of how well they play, it should be enough to even up their record with a win. 49ers 27, Jaguars 20

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS AT BUFFALO BILLS (-7, O/U: 50)

Indianapolis has found a way to remain relevant all season in spite of just now reaching .500. They’ve also knocked off two of the best teams in the AFC to get there; the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans. What does that mean for Buffalo? I have no clue as that team just dropped a 9-6 baseball score game to the Jags two weeks ago. I’m going with the Mafia here, but not taking the points. Bills 27, Colts 23

MIAMI DOLPHINS AT NEW YORK JETS (+3, O/U: 44.5)

Here it is, officially the worst game of the week as the two teams Scott Hanson will be apologizing for featuring anytime the show up on NFL Red Zone Sunday have a combined record of 5-14. New York is going with Joe Flacco, sitting an “injured” Zach Wilson and sending Mike White back into FBI witness protection. Miami should have Tua Tagovailoa under center as healthy as he’s been all year. Which is probably not very, but still, better than the alternative of Jacoby Brissett. Dolphins 20, Jets 16

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM AT CAROLINA PANTHERS (-3.5, O/U: 43)

This game has our most interesting subplot of the week as Ron Rivera of the WFT faces his old No. 1 overall pick at quarterback in Cam Newton, who made his triumphant return to the Panthers last week. Rivera said he has some ideas how to counter what Newton does, but what perhaps no one can counter is what Newton can get out of the rest of the Carolina franchise. Again, I say, I can’t believe this reunion has happened and the Panthers are so damn lucky it did. Panthers 24, WFT 20

BALTIMORE RAVENS AT CHICAGO BEARS (+4.5, O/U: 44.5)

Baltimore is in a weird place where they can be the team that’s earned a 6-3 record through comebacks and gritty play, or they can be the team that got lucky to amass those wins and are a play away each game from being 2-7. Chicago is coming off a bye and had a week to study what the Dolphins did to slow down the Ravens. They have the defensive personnel to pull it off. What they might not have is the offense to make the difference. Ravens 23, Bears 20

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (-1.5, O/U: 43)

Both these teams should look at this match up as a playoff game because the only available slots in the NFC look to be the sixth and seventh seeds and there are currently a solid six teams fighting over them. A loss for either squad could end up being the tiebreaker that keeps the loser in their man cave come January. New Orleans has lost two in a row after a shocking win over the Bucs. Philly just knocked off a Broncos team on the road and nearly got the Chargers the week before. Could they be peaking? Eagles 31, Saints 23

HOUSTON TEXANS AT TENNESSEE TITANS (-10.5, O/U: 44.5)

Tennessee has won six consecutive games including five over 2020 playoff teams. Unfortunately for them, their last loss came to a team nearly as hapless as the Texans team they’ll face Sunday, the Jets. Even with their injury issues piling up, I don’t have any hope that Houston can make this a game in Nashville. Titans 34, Texans 10

GREEN BAY PACKERS AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS (+1, O/U: 47.5)

Aaron Rodgers didn’t play like Aaron Rodgers two weeks after knocking himself out with COVID-19, but he didn’t have to as the Pack shut out the Seattle Seahawks. Minnesota won’t be that kind of pushover on offense and this is exactly the kind of game you want a full strength Rodgers. Unfortunately, he’s probably not there yet. Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins, who is also unvaccinated, has been way more careful and, more importantly, followed the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols. I think it’s going to matter. Vikings 27, Packers 24

CINCINNATI BENGALS AT LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (pk, O/U: 50.5)

After the most exciting start for Cincinnati in probably a decade, they dropped two straight games to take them right out of the AFC playoff seeding before their bye. They’ve had a week off to deal with it, lick their wounds and prepare for a Las Vegas team that has to just hope no one else commits a major crime or threatens to murder someone over TikTok before they can finally wrap the season. Bengals 34, Raiders 16

ARIZONA CARDINALS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (pk, O/U: 48)

Injured quarterbacks can sometimes come back a game too soon and look horrible. I think that’s what happened with Russell Wilson last week and could be what Kyler Murray is doing this week. As such, I think this one will surprise people with the final score. The Seahawks’ season is on the line here as seven losses at the mid-point of the year would all but guarantee they’ll miss the playoffs. Seahawks 37, Cardinals 20

DALLAS COWBOYS AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-2.5, O/U: 56)

What did the Chiefs learn from their trials and tribulations during the worst September and October of Patrick Mahomes’ pro career? We’ll find out here as they play the first team that can legitimately score with them in a month. Dallas didn’t so much get right in beating the Falcons last week as just take their turn with the Atlanta paddle. I have to tell you, I feel like this one comes down to Andy Reid vs. Mike McCarthy and unless we’re talking about a hot dog eating contest (and it would be close), I’m going Reid when it comes to football. Chiefs 33, Cowboys 30

Last week

Straight up: 6-7-1

Against the spread: 6-8

Season

Straight up: 89-60-1

Against the spread: 74-76

Follow Adam Greene on Twitter @TheFirstMan

The NFL season is rolling along and the Week 11 Schedule is up and taking bets at BetOnline.AG.

Connect with us on our BetOnline socials on Twitter and Instagram for the latest sports news, viral moments, betting odds and occasional memes.

BY ADAM GREENE Go ahead and start crafting the bust for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
