The Celebration Bowl is the main bowl game involving teams from the lower-division Football Championship Subdivision, or FCS. The FCS has a playoff tournament, but the Celebration Bowl brings together the champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for a festive one-game showcase in Atlanta. The highlight of this game is former Atlanta Falcon star Deion Sanders coaching Jackson State and bringing the Tigers to this game, inside the Falcons\u2019 home stadium. It should be a very lively scene this coming Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Carolina State Bulldogs vs. Jackson State Tigers Location:<\/strong> Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA<\/p>\n\n\n\n CFB Odds:<\/strong> Jackson State -11.5<\/p>\n\n\n\n South Carolina State Bulldogs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bulldogs were 6-5 this season, but that was good enough to win the MEAC championship. Two of South Carolina State\u2019s losses were to FBS teams, Clemson and New Mexico State. In FCS games, this team was 6-3. South Carolina State was 1-4 through five games this season, but it won four of its last five games to achieve a winning record and capture the MEAC title. Defense got the job done for the Bulldogs, who beat Delaware State 13-7, Howard 15-12, and Norfolk State 31-21. This team did not make many defensive mistakes in the second half of the season, the key reason for its late surge and its presence in this Celebration Bowl game. Coach Buddy Pough made the necessary adjustments to forge a successful season after the rough start. Playing those games against Clemson and New Mexico State led to a growth process and the learning of lessons which paid dividends later in the season for this team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jackson State Tigers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Tigers have had a terrific season under Deion Sanders, going 11-1. Their only loss was the only game they played against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team from the higher division in college football. Jackson State won all 11 of its games against fellow FCS opponents this season. Jackson State had a very shaky opening game, a 7-6 win over Florida A&M. However, winning that game \u2013 which easily could have gone the other way \u2013 seemed to settle down the Tigers. Jackson State then beat Tennessee Tech 38-16 and began to beat its opponents soundly. Jackson State won games by 46, 21, 20, 14, and 17 points and gained momentum as the season moved along. The Tigers\u2019 defense allowed 20 points or more in only one of 12 games this year: 21 points in a 41-21 win over Texas Southern. Jackson State has allowed 17 points or fewer in 10 games this season, 12 points or fewer in six games this year. That\u2019s a very reliable defense which has the Tigers poised to win this game over South Carolina State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jackson State has set a much higher standard than South Carolina State. Both defenses are good, but Jackson State has been more consistently strong over the course of the full season.
