The second PGA Tour event of the new year will take place in Hawaii this week. Cameron Smith was impressive on his way to beating Jon Rahm by one stroke to win the Sentry Tournament of Champions last weekend, and he is the overall favorite<\/a> at Waialae Country Club for the Sony Open. There aren\u2019t a lot of big names signed up to take part in this tournament, so Smith has a decent chance of opening the season with back-to-back wins. Smith also won this event in 2020, and that will make him a popular pick among pundits this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevin Na is the most recent winner of the Sony Open. Na beat Chris Kirk and Joaquin Niemann by a single stroke to win the Sony Open last year, and he finished T13 at the Tournament of Champions last week. He was very consistent with scores of 67-68-68-68 over the course of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course record was set by Justin Thomas five years ago. Thomas crushed the field with a 27-under in 2017, and he beat Justin Rose by seven strokes. The 2017 PGA Championship winner won\u2019t be taking part in this tournament though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the most frequent stops on the PGA Tour. There has been a tournament at Waialae Country Club every year from 1965 to present. It is a lot more forgiving than Kapalua was last week too, as there isn\u2019t nearly the same elevation change and winds aren\u2019t typically as treacherous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waialae is close to the Pacific Ocean, but it\u2019s not right up on the water so golfers don\u2019t have to worry about a lot of hazards. Some of the greens are fairly protected by bunkers and palm trees, yet this is a relative walk in the park so the winner should finish at least 20-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Bet to Win The Sony Open in Hawaii: Webb Simpson +1600<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re looking for consistency, Webb Simpson is the golfer to go with this week<\/a>. Simpson has finished T20 in his last seven appearances at the Sony Open in Hawaii, and he has finished T4 in each of his last three runs at Waialae Country Club. He is overdue for a win at this tournament, so +1600 is a great price on the 36-year-old with seven career wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Value Play to Win The Sony Open in Hawaii: Kevin Na +2800<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defending champion should not be 28-1 to win The Sony Open for the second straight year. Jimmy Walker won this event in back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015, and there is plenty of value<\/a> in Na to become the fifth golfer to win at Waialae in consecutive years. Na has three top five finishes here in his career, but he has also missed the cut four times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
