The Cougars made the Final Four last year thanks to a dream bracket, and they will likely be on either the No. 1 or No. 2 line this Sunday. Memphis and SMU are currently on the bubble, but a strong showing over the span of three days in this tournament could tip the scales in favor of the Tigers and the Mustangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cougars had not advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament since the Phi Slamma Jamma days before Sampson came to campus, but he has consistently bettered his previous result to lead Houston to the second round, the Sweet Sixteen, and then the Final Four last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Houston won its first AAC Championship last season. The Cougars are odds-on favorites<\/a> to win again in 2022 as both Wichita State and Cincinnati have really struggled. Even though they have been without Marcus Sasser and Tramon Mark for most of the season, they have continued to dominate the AAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Memphis Tigers have not been fundamentally sound, but they are extremely talented. Memphis had the top recruiting class in the country last season. They were just 9-8 in the middle of the year, yet everything has come together over the last several weeks. Memphis has won 10 of its last 11 games, beating Houston twice to potentially punch a ticket to March Madness. Four players are averaging at least 10 PPG, but Memphis also leads the nation in turnovers on offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That makes SMU a tempting pick to win the AAC at +750. The Mustangs aren\u2019t a great team, but they have been able to beat Memphis twice and split their two games with Houston. Kendric Davis has been impressive at times, leading SMU with 19.5 PPG, and this team has four solid perimeter shooters that are all averaging at least 10.6 PPG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wichita State may be worth a small play<\/a> if you feel like rolling the dice. It\u2019s been a down year for the Shockers, as they are 15-12 and need to win the AAC Tournament to make it to the Big Dance. The Shockers haven\u2019t had much luck against the top teams in the conference, but they took both Houston and Arizona to overtime before losing.
