The American League East was one of the most competitive divisions in the sport last year. They had three playoff teams and four teams with over 90 wins, yes you read that correctly. As we near the 2022 MLB season, the competitive level of the division isn\u2019t expecting to drop at all. In fact, it has the potential to get even tougher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New York Yankees<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Odds: +225<\/p>\n\n\n\n The New York Yankees came into the offseason knowing that they had to improve at the shortstop position. They were able to do that in free agency by acquiring Isiah Kiner-Falefa. They also decided to grab Ben Rortvedt right after. However, the team unfortunately lost Corey Kluber and Gio Urshela. New York still has some holes to fill on their roster, losing far more than they retained heading into the season. Luckily, they still have some of the best players in the league including Aaron Judge. They just have to stay healthy. Tampa Bay Rays<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Odds: +250<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking of Corey Kluber, the Tampa Bay Rays were the ones to steal him from their division rivals. Kluber adds onto an already strong pitching rotation that includes Shane Baz. They also grabbed Wander Franco, signing him to a massive 11-year, $182 million deal. The only issue that they are looking at entering the season is the question of Nelson Cruz. Cruz is still a free agent and his absence could end up leaving a hole in their batting lineup. They don\u2019t look stronger than the Yankees, but the potential to be a Wild Card team is certainly there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Toronto Blue Jays<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Odds: +260<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Toronto Blue Jays got crushed at the start of free agency. They saw their CY Young winner Robbie Ray Jr sign elsewhere. On top of that, their excellent infielder Marcus Semien signed to another team as well. They did grab Kevin Gausman before the lockout started to try and make up for their losses. They still need to make another move to really compete for the division title. Luckily, they still returning talent like Jose Berrios, Alek Manoah and Vladimir Guerrero to keep them competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Boston Red Sox<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Odds: +325<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Boston Red Sox seem to be a little bit of a question mark in the division. They are looking at potentially losing Kyle Schwarber after trading away Hunter Renfroe. They tried to grab Seiya Suzuki to negate those losses but despite getting listed as the favorites at one point, he signed with the Chicago Cubs. All of those losses don\u2019t help their case. Plus, none of their move’s fix what was one of the worst defensive infield ratings in the league a year ago. If that doesn\u2019t get cleaned up soon, then trouble could be lurking. Baltimore Orioles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Odds: +5000<\/p>\n\n\n\n The odds are so low for the Baltimore Orioles because they were tied for the worst record in the league a year ago. They have 368 losses in the past four seasons alone. While their offseason hasn\u2019t been bad up to this point, their pitching is absolutely atrocious. They had an average of 5.99 ERA and a .285 opponent batting average, both of which ranked dead last.
