This time around, the oddsmakers have them repeating that same result and winning the division just like last year. There are some interesting teams to cover in this division though, and they can certainly make this competition very interesting.

Chicago White Sox

Odds: -200

It makes sense that the Chicago White Sox are favored to win the division right now. After all, they have the fourth best odds to win the World Series. However, they took a big hit right when the lockout ended. Star pitcher Carlos Rondon signed a two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants. They were able to sign a bunch of solid players to fill in a few of their holes across their roster to make up for it. Chicago is lucky to play in a relatively weak division right now, which gives them a great chance to win it once again.

Detroit Tigers

Odds: +700

The Detroit Tigers weren’t messing around when free agency first began. This team understood that they needed upgrades at both the shortstop and pitcher positions and they took action. We saw them instantly snag Javier Baez to a six-year contract along with Eduardo Rodriguez to a five-year contract in order to fill both holes. While it doesn’t look like they are ready to knock off the White Sox just yet, Detroit’s ability to fill the holes on their roster are a great sign for the future.

Minnesota Twins

Odds: +750

The Minnesota Twins have seen an up and down offseason keep their odds of winning the division at bay for now. They upgraded at third base by trading for Gio Urshela, but gave away Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Their bullpen is really where they fall down the rankings though. They had the 10th worst ERA in the league last year along with the second most home runs given up. Couple this with a below average batting lineup right now and who knows what we will see from the Twins. Their season could heavily depend upon the moves they make before the year begins.

Cleveland Guardians

Odds: +850

The Cleveland Guardians were second in the division last season and some thought that a few more pieces could throw them into contention to win it this year. Unfortunately, they just haven’t been that loud in the free agency market. For example, before the lockout started, they hadn’t signed a single player yet. They have some solid pitching rotations but overall, too many holes to really take down a team like the White Sox in this race.

Kansas City Royals

Odds: +1000

The offseason hasn’t been full of splash moves for the Kansas City Royals. Although, they still have a lot of optimism for the upcoming season. It will be the year that we get to see the former number two overall pick, Bobby Witt Jr, in the pro league. Witt Jr has had a phenomenal stretch of time in Double-A and Triple-A competition. His potential can only take them so far at the end of the day. Kansas City traded away World Series MVP Jorge Soler not too long ago and that is looking to be a huge loss for at least this next season.

The American League Central saw the Chicago White Sox run away with the title.
