A lot of big names are skipping this week\u2019s Valero Texas Open in order to prepare for next week\u2019s Masters. However, the fans that descend upon San Antonio will still be able to see stars like Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, and Bryson DeChambeau. McIlroy is considered the favorite to win this event<\/a> by the PGA Tour betting odds although he hasn\u2019t played the week before the Masters since 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Spieth and Corey Conners are the last two winners of the Valero Texas Open, and they are two of the five golfers that are 20-1 or less<\/a> this week. Spieth was superb in this event last year, besting Charley Hoffman by two strokes, but he hasn\u2019t been great lately. He finished second at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, yet he hasn\u2019t finished better than T18 in any other event this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conners was strong in last week\u2019s WGC Match Play Tournament. He made it to the semifinals of the event, leading to his FedEx Cup ranking shooting up from 69th<\/sup> to 34th<\/sup>. Conners has been somewhat hit or miss recently though, missing the cut in three of his last seven tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Course<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wind will play a major factor at TPC San Antonio. It is expected to wreak havoc during practice rounds on Wednesday, and the only day where the wind won\u2019t be a factor is Thursday. The groundskeepers will make it easier on the players by having greens that aren\u2019t too fast but getting to the green will be challenging at times given the conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Bet to Win the Valero Texas Open: Abraham Ancer +2000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We haven\u2019t seen the best golf from Abraham Ancer lately. Ancer failed to finish better than T33 in seven straight tournaments prior to making the quarterfinals of last week\u2019s WGC Match Play event. He has made it to the weekend in all four of his previous trips to TPC San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open, and he secured a personal best T23 finish last year. Those overall numbers aren\u2019t great, but that makes him worth a play at 20-1<\/a> to reverse his recent performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Value Play to Win the Valero Texas Open: Charley Hoffman +7000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This could have easily fallen into the best bet category. Charley Hoffman has been great at the Valero Texas Open over his career. Hoffman won this tournament in 2016, and he finished runner-up in 2011, 2019, and 2021. The 45-year-old has not finished better than T22 this season, but his history on this course makes him a strong bet at 70-1. Hoffman finished T13 or better every year from 2010 to 2016 here, and his back-to-back runner-up finishes make him a great longshot to back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
