Here, let’s identify the top defensive tackles on the board:

1 – Jordan Davis, Georgia

The best player on Georgia’s defense, Jordan Davis was a relentless machine who helped the Bulldogs win their first national title in 41 years. That’s quite a feat and an amazing display of heavy lifting. Georgia was able to stonewall Michigan and Alabama in the College Football Playoff, and it began with Davis filling the middle and being a player who proved impossible for opponents to physically defeat in a one-on-one matchup. NFL teams are going to double-team Davis inside, so even if you don’t see him make a high number of tackles each game, Davis is going to free up teammates elsewhere in the front seven, and that’s how he will often affect the shape and trajectory of a game. He brings so much to the table as a powerhouse defensive tackle and has very clearly established himself as the cream of the crop.

2 – DeMarvin Leal, Texas A&M

The Texas A&M defense wasn’t spectacular last year, but it was solid, and it had its share of memorable moments, one being an upset win over Alabama midway through the season. In that game against Bama, the Aggies were able to repeatedly make defensive stands in the red zone. That began with Leal’s ability to seal the middle and win his one-on-one matchup. When opposing teams tried to hammer out tough yards in short-yardage situations or in closed space, Leal answered the call for Texas A&M, and that’s why he is such an attractive prospect for a lot of teams.

3 – Logan Hall, Houston

The Cougars quietly had a very good season. If you didn’t pay close attention to them, they made the AAC Championship Game before losing to the Cincinnati Bearcats, the team which made the College Football Playoff with an unbeaten record. Hall was the main engine of a Houston defense which constantly made timely plays in 2021. Houston’s offense sputtered on a number of occasions in 2021, and the defense was able to rescue the Cougars with great reliability. Hall was at the core of that effort, shouldering a large number of responsibilities without losing focus. NFL people will see how detail-oriented Hall is in his work, which should lead an NFL team to pounce on him when it has the chance.

4 – Devonte Wyatt, Georgia

The amount of Georgia defensive players on draft boards is wild, but this is what happens when a team wins the national championship and gives up fewer than 11 points per game over the course of a full 15-game season. Wyatt joined Jordan Davis in creating a brick wall in the middle of Georgia’s defensive line. NFL teams will watch ample amounts of film and realize how much of a gem Wyatt truly is.

5 – Travis Jones, Connecticut

The UConn Huskies were terrible last year. Travis Jones was not. A great player being on a bad team is precisely the kind of reality which will make Jones coveted in the NFL. An executive will see how great he was in spite of the lack of support he had from his teammates. That core realization is something NFL general managers need to be aware of on draft night.

The NFL draft is now the main conversation piece among American sports fans, so let’s look at the various position…

[129

post-22242","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl
["GET
