Our long national nightmare slog has finally come to an end. Thursday night, NFL football will return to our lives to take its proper place, as we once again let it be the only thing we think about or talk about over the next six months. We\u2019ve earned this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve powered through other sports seasons which we\u2019ve deftly ignored. We kept our football eye and wagering powers tuned up thanks to a spring USFL season that wasn\u2019t nearly as bad as it could have been considering Jeff Fisher was involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NBA crowned a champion, some MLB team is probably in the midst of buying a title and the WNBA is playing in front of literally 10s of people as I write this. We\u2019ve never needed football more than we do now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, we\u2019ll take this preseason game where we\u2019ll watched players we might never see again (until the XFL holds its draft) wearing uniforms we actually recognize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we get more than a series from the starters, I\u2019ll be shocked. More than likely, the twos will take the field early and the threes will ride most of the way as the Jacksonville Jaguars face off against the Las Vegas Raiders in the annual Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HALL OF FAME GAME<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS AT LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (pk, O\/U: 30.5)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (0-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jaguars roll into their 2022 preseason campaign after a miserable 2021 that saw them not only secure the No. 1 overall pick in the draft for the second consecutive year, but fire their first-year head coach, Urban Meyer, before he even completed that first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a humiliating fall for a franchise rife with humiliating falls. Meyer was a disaster across the board, turned a team that was already a laughingstock into a raging dumpster fire laughingstock. Hopefully, it didn\u2019t hinder Trevor Lawrence\u2019s development too much before new head coach Doug Pederson can make it right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacksonville might need some work from the starters here, but my guess is we\u2019ll get CJ Beathard and Jake Luton most of the way at quarterback, throwing to guys like Marvin Hall and Jeff Cotton Jr. Be on the lookout for backup offensive tackle Coy Cronk just so you will have definitive proof that someone with that name actually exists on Planet Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (0-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the Jaguars, the Raiders too will be breaking in a new head coach. This time it is the often targeted, but rarely landed Josh McDaniels replacing national disgrace Jon Gruden, who was fired early last season for all sorts of racist, stupid stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McDaniels was tossed the keys to a playoff team. Interim head coach Rich Bisaccia kept the ship upright and got Vegas into the postseason with a 10-7 record. They fell 26-19 to the eventual AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Raiders are better than the Jags, are their back ups? With so many draft picks tossed into the woodchipper through abysmal Gruden\/Mike Mayock drafts, McDaniels has some depth issues of his own. We\u2019ll probably see Jarrett Stidham play most of the first half and Nick Mullins take over in the second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the bright side, playing back ups will allow Gruden\/Mayock joke pick Cleland Ferrell, taken No. 4 overall in 2019, a chance to see the field for some significant time. In three seasons, the guy taken fourth overall in that draft has a total of eight sacks. But at least he\u2019s not in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PREDICTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though both teams have depth issues, the Raiders have to be in better shape than the Jaguars. Mullins has won NFL games for the San Francisco 49ers and Stidham has played in McDaniels\u2019 system since the New England Patriots drafted him in 2019. Raiders 20, Jaguars 10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
