We\u2019ve reached the trenches of our draft rankings with just a few days to go before we watch large men don multicolored suits to walk across the NFL Draft stage and share an embrace with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, a man they will spend the entirety of their actual football careers despising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like the rest of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a strong group of offensive lineman coming out, especially from some of the bigger, more successful programs. Men who have played against the best and defeated them in one-on-one combat. No one is coming into the NFL a finished product. There\u2019s probably no Orlando Pace or Quentin Nelson in this crew, but there could be a Creed Humphrey and that\u2019s a guy that can help you win a Super Bowl. Or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have odds on the total offensive lineman selected in the 1st<\/sup> round: Over 5.5 (-220), Under 5.5 (+155)<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong>If you\u2019ve checked out my Mock Draft 2.0, then you know I had six going in the first round<\/a> and that might be low. Either way, the over 5.5 seems like a solid bet to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s how I see the best of the best exiting college football entering the NFL\u2019s Annual Amateur Player Selection Meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. PETER SKORONSKI, OT, NORTHWESTERN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 21<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-4, 313 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 89.5<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odds to be 1st<\/sup> offensive lineman selected:<\/strong> -105<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Skoronski was a first team AP All-American for Northwestern last season and received a 93.0 pass blocking grade form Pro Football Focus. I\u2019m sure NFL teams would love it if he was an inch or two taller and maybe 20 pounds heavier. He can\u2019t do anything about the first problem, but training, nutrition and a solid buffet table can take care of the second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Prediction:<\/strong><\/a> No. 7 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, first offensive lineman off the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. O\u2019CYRUS TORRENCE, OG, FLORIDA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 23<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-5, 330 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 88.0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If O\u2019Cyrus Torrence played tackle, he\u2019d be the No. 1 rated offensive lineman on the planet and a danger to go in the Top 5. As a guard, he should still not have a long wait before his name is called Thursday. Torrence was an AP First Team All-American and did not allow a since sack in his entire career, spanning 1,427 pass blocking snaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Prediction:<\/strong> No. 9 overall to the Chicago Bears<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. PARIS JOHNSON, JR., OT, OHIO STATE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 21<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-6, 313 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 83.0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odds to be 1st<\/sup> offensive lineman selected:<\/strong> +125<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris Johnson was a 2022 consensus All-American and has played both right guard and left tackle in his college career. He\u2019s an elite run blocker already, but\u2019s a raw talent. His pass protection needs some work. My guess is he\u2019ll open his career at right tackle somewhere, then move to left in a year or two as he grows as a player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Prediction:<\/strong> No. 13 overall to the New York Jets<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. BRODERICK JONES, OT, GEORGIA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 21<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-5, 311 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 78.2<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odds to be 1st<\/sup> offensive lineman selected:<\/strong> +725<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a shocker and I hope you\u2019re sitting down for it \u2014 the starting tackle for the two-time NCAA College Football Playoff National Champion Georgia Bulldogs is a first-round talent. Jones was a first team All-SEC selection this past season and did not give up a single sack in 449 pass block attempts. Like the two tackles above him, he needs to hook up with a nutritionist and hit the lunch counter, but he\u2019s a day one starter, probably on the right side at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Prediction:<\/strong> No. 27 overall to the Buffalo Bills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. DARNELL WRIGHT, OT, TENNESSEE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 21<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-5, 333 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 71.4<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odds to be 1st<\/sup> offensive lineman selected:<\/strong> +500<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darnell Wright is just one of many beneficiaries of the resurgence of the University of Tennessee football program under Josh Heupel. He played on one of the best teams in college football and against some of the best teams in college football, earning the lowest pressure rate allowed, 1.1, for any offensive lineman in a Power 5 conference. Wright was also a first team All-SEC selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Prediction:<\/strong> No. 26 overall to the Dallas Cowboys<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. CODY MAUCH, OT, NORTH DAKOTA STATE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 24<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-5, 302 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 91.8<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cody Mauch played left tackle for three consecutive South Dakota State FCS National Championship teams. I\u2019m not a fan of rankings guys from smaller schools this high, but as a guard in the NFL, Mauch could be a day one starter. He also has the skills to play center and, after 62 starts over the last five seasons, should have the resume to land as a Day Two selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. ANTON HARRISON, OT, OKLAHOMA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 21<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-4, 315 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 72.6<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odds to be 1st<\/sup> offensive lineman selected:<\/strong> +8000<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anton Harrison finished out his 2022 campaign as a first team All-Big 12 selection. He\u2019s still young and doesn\u2019t have a lot of miles on him, in spite of playing for one of the NCAA\u2019s better programs. Last season Harrison allowed one single sack on 425 pass block attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Prediction:<\/strong> No. 30 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. MATTHEW BERGERON, OT, SYRACUSE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age:<\/strong> 23<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size:<\/strong> 6-5, 318 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 PFF Grade:<\/strong> 75.2<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew Bergeron played right tackle in 2019 for the Orange, but took over left tackle duties from 2020-2022. He was a second team All-ACC selection in 2022. He\u2019s athletic and has the physical size needed, especially if he can add 10-15 pounds. He\u2019ll likely end up a right tackle and a long-term starter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
