You could see it as a season where they resurrected their fortunes after opening 1-6 or one where that stumble out of the gate cost them a playoff spot as they won eight of their final 10 contests.

Regardless, expectations are high for head coach Dan Campbell’s squad coming into the season for good reason. They’ve nailed their drafts since Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes joined the team in 2021 and enjoy one of the most talented, and youngest rosters in the league.

DETROIT LIONS

2022-23 Record: 9-8

Playoffs: N/A

Presumed Starters

QB: Jared Goff

RB: Jahmyr Gibbs

WR: Amon-Ra St. Brown

WR: Marvin Jones, Jr.

WR: Josh Reynolds

TE: Sam LaPorta

FB: Jason Cabinda

LT: Taylor Decker

LG: Jonah Jackson

C: Frank Ragnow

RG: Halapoulivaati Vaitai

RT: Penei Sewell

LDE: Aiden Hutchinson

LDT: Alim McNeill

RDT: Isaiah Buggs

RDE: Charles Harris

WLB: Jack Campbell

MLB: Alex Anzalone

SLB: Derrick Barnes

LCB: Cameron Sutton

RCB: Jerry Jacobs

SS: Kerby Joseph

FS: CJ Gardner-Johnson

K: Riley Patterson

P: Jack Fox

PR: Kalif Raymond

KR: Scott Daly

2023 NFL Draft: Round 1: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama, Round 1: Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa, Round 2: Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa, Round 2: Brian Branch, CB, Alabama, Round 3: Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee, Round 3: Brodric Martin, DT, Western Kentucky, Round 5: Colby Sorsdal, OT, William & Mary, Round 7: Antoine Green, WR, North Carolina

Players Gained: Cameron Sutton – CB (FA), David Montgomery – RB (FA), CJ Gardner-Johnson – Safety (FA), Emmanuel Moseley – CB (FA), Teddy Bridgewater – QB (FA), Marvin Jones, Jr. – CB (FA), Jalen Reeves-Maybin – OLB (FA), Jake McQuade – LS (FA), Bobby Hart – OG (FA), Christian Covington – DT (FA), Benny Snell – RB (FA)

Players Lost: Jamal Williams – RB, Mike Hughes – CB, DJ Chark – WR, Chris Board – LB, Evan Brown – OG, Deshon Elliott – Safety, Josh Woods – LB, Amani Aruwariye – CB, Austin Bryant – DE, Michael Badgley – K, Bobby Price – Safety, Germain Ifedi – RT, Tommy Kraemer – OG

Detroit Lions 2023 Odds

2023 Super Bowl Odds: +2500

2023 NFC Championship Odds: +1000

2023 NFC North Odds: +145

Team Wins: Over 9.5 (-120), Under 9.5 (-110)

Last season’s early stumbles might have cost the Lions a playoff appearance (That and the historically bad referee calls in the Los Angeles Rams vs Seattle Seahawks game in Week 18), but 2023-24 should be different. Detroit might open the year 0-1 after a visit to Arrowhead to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, but they could easily win their next five games. In fact, I expect this team to be 5-1 when they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Oct. 22.

It gets a little tougher after that, but not a whole lot. They play four games against 2022 playoff teams in their last nine and two of those are against the Minnesota Vikings. Those contests will likely determine the NFC North Champion.

2023-23 Win Prediction: 10-7

Follow Adam Greene on Twitter @TheFirstMan.

Connect with us our socials on Twitter and Instagram for the latest sports news, viral moments, betting odds and the occasional memes.

BY ADAM GREENE There are two ways to look at last season’s Detroit Lions’ campaign.
