Yes, last week they unleashed two mystery Sunday Night and Monday Night matchups upon us that would have never made any sense under even the most ideal circumstances. The Chicago Bears appeared on SNF and were crushed by the Los Angeles Chargers, as one would have expected. On MNF, the Las Vegas Raiders were run over by the Detroit Lions. Now, why the Bears and Raiders got put onto the prime time slate to begin with should lead to a congressional investigation. No one outside of Justin Fields’ mom and whatever porn star Jimmy Garoppolo is banging at the moment thought the Bears and Raiders would be anything other than a flaming, rat-covered pile of old baby diapers this season.

This game, though, appeared like a slam dunk. You had Justin Herbert and an emerging Chargers team that made the playoffs a year ago traveling to New York to take on the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets. Looked great on paper, but maybe that was just because the scheduler was huffing ivermectin with Rodgers at the time.

Anyway, this game is still happening and now we’ll all have to watch it.

As two of the original AFL franchises, these teans have met on the reg every few years. Los Angeles leads the all-time series 23-14-1 and has won four straight going back to 2012. They last faced off on Nov. 22, 2020, with the Chargers holding on to a 34-28 victory. Then rookie Justin Herbert was 37 of 49 passing for 366 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. Keenan Allen caught 16 passes for 145 yards and a score.

Joe Flacco (currently unemployed) was 15 of 30 passing for 205 yards, a TD and a pick for the Jets. Frank Gore (now retired) rushed 15 times for 61 yards and a touchdown.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS AT NEW YORK JETS (+3, O/U: 41.5)

Location: MetLife, Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J.

Broadcast: ABC/ESPN

Kickoff: Nov. 6, 8:15 p.m.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (3-4)

If I do have some beef with the schedulers on this one, it’s why they put the Chargers in prime time two weeks in a row. Last Sunday night they destroyed the aforementioned Bears 30-13 to halt a two-game losing streak. Justin Herbert was 31 of 40 passing for 298 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He was not sacked. Austin Ekeler rushed 15 times for just 29 yards but caught seven passes for 94 yards and a score. The defense sacked Tyson Bagent once and picked him off twice.

NEW YORK JETS (4-3)

Speaking of streaks, the Jets have now won three in a row after knocking off the New York Giants last week, 13-10, in overtime. Zach Wilson was 17 of 36 passing for 240 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the victory. He was sacked four times and led the team rushing with four carries for 25 yards. Garrett Wilson caught seven passes for 100 yards. Breece Hall rushed 12 times for just 17 yards, but, like Ekeler, delivered in the passing game, hauling in six balls for 76 yards and a TD. The defense sacked Giants QBs four times.

THE PICK

In some universe out there these two teams have traded head coaches and LA is a serious Super Bowl contender. Unfortunately for both franchises, they live in this particular universe. New York has a solid streak going, but they’re flying close to the sun. I think Herbert, even hampered by Brandon Staley, can get it done two weeks in a row under the lights. Chargers 24, Jets 17

Last week

Straight up: 11-5

Against the spread: 10-6

Season

Straight up: 75-47

Against the spread: 65-57

Follow Adam Greene on Twitter @TheFirstMan.

Connect with us our socials on Twitter and Instagram for the latest sports news, viral moments, betting odds and the occasional memes.

BY ADAM GREENE You can hardly blame the NFL Schedule makers for this one.
