There’s not a lot of movement this week, as the good teams remain either good, or have been defeated by other good teams. Meanwhile, the bad teams still suck and one coach’s head has already rolled. Josh McDaniels could have some more company soon enough.

But how can I make all this about me? By ranking all 32 teams through an arbitrary system I’ve concocted solely out of my own imagination and change, pretty much, every week.

So, what are we waiting for? Let’s get to it.

1. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (8-1)

Jalen Hurts is a little banged up, but there’s no call to the bullpen and Marcus Mariota just yet. They’ve got a bye week to heal up and get ready for a Super Bowl LVII rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11. Last week: No. 1

2. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (6-2)

How serious a contender are the Jags? A win at home over the San Francisco 49ers, coming off a bye, would do a lot to prove it. Last week: No. 2

3. BALTIMORE RAVENS (7-2)

After completely obliterating the Seattle Seahawks last week, Lamar Jackson is 17-1 against NFC teams in his career. Which really shows how stupid it was for an NFC team like the Atlanta Falcons not to snap him up this offseason when they had the chance. Last week: No.4

4. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (7-2)

While the Chiefs have continued to shed key offensive pieces every season, they’ve apparently balanced that by building one of the best defenses in the league. What does this mean? Maybe a fourth Super Bowl in the last five seasons for Kansas City. Last week: No. 5

5. MIAMI DOLPHINS (6-3)

Miami gets the week off after taking their third loss of the season, all to 2022 playoff teams (and likely 2023 playoff teams). It’s not time to panic for the Dolphins yet, but it’s obvious they just might be the best of the second-tier squads for now. And while that means a Super Bowl probably isn’t happening, there are about 24 other franchises that would love to be in Miami’s shoes, and have their young superstar head coach, Mike McDaniel. Last week: No. 3

6. DETROIT LIONS (6-2)

The Lions now own the distinction of being the last team, probably ever, to defeat a josh McDaniels coached NFL franchise. After the Los Angeles Chargers this week, a game that could be a real challenge, Detroit has a veritable cake walk into the playoffs with only three teams with a winning record coming up on their schedule and one of those is the New Orleans Saints. Two more are against the Minnesota Vikings who are still breaking in a new QB. Last week: No. 6

7. CINCINNATI BENGALS (5-3)

Well, would you look at that? The Bengals did that thing they do where they embarrass the Buffalo Bills and beat them handily. Here’s a fun fact, the win over Buffalo was the first victory over an AFC team for Cincinnati this season. Last week: No. 10

8. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (5-4)

Adding Joshua Dobbs might have saved the Vikings’ season. They’re tracking well, won five of their last six (including one and a half without Kirk Cousins) and should be getting Jusitn Jefferson back just in time. Dobbs was playing at a high level for the Arizona Cardinals this year before they traded him, but no one expected what he unleashed last week against the Falcons. He’d only been with the team a few days, didn’t know most of his teammates’ names and hadn’t even taken a snap from the center. Last week: No. 8

9. DALLAS COWBOYS (5-3)

Don’t feel too bad about the loss to the Eagles, Cowboys. It was a lot closer than I thought it would be and you get the New York Giants this week to fix all the fractured feelings you experienced after and wrote about in your journals. Last week: No. 7

10. BUFFALO BILLS (5-4)

It’s not a surprise that the Bills lost to the Bengals last week. It’s more surprising they were even in the game. Buffalo couldn’t be more laid bare by Cincy if their iPhone clouds were hacked. Fear not, Bills Mafia, you get the Denver Broncos in Prime Time this week. Last week: No. 9

11. PITTSBURGH STEELERS (5-3)

The Steelers are experiencing the weirdest season in recent memory. They have the worst offense in the league thanks to employing the most inept offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, in NFL history. They have, somehow, picked another psychotic wide receiver in George Pickens, who has basically done all the things to break up with the team that a freshman college girl would do… just delete them off his Instagram. And, yet, they’re still winning. They are firmly in the playoff race and have one of the easiest schedules in the league to keep it going. It’s time to make peace with the thought that like a Quebecois separatist, you’re not escaping Canada anytime soon. Last week: No. 14

12. CLEVELAND BROWNS (5-3)

Deshaun Watson came back just in time to get a solid workout in a glorified scrimmage against the Arizona Cardinals. It’ll be significantly tougher this week against the Ravens, but games like this are why Cleveland gave Watson his insane contract in the first place. Last week: No. 15

13. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (5-4)

Here’s a fun fact for Dennis Allen, brought to light after the Las Vegas Raiders fired Josh McDaniels — only Allen, at a .323 winning percentage , in the current NFL coaching class, had a worse career winning percentage than McDaniels (.377). Allen went 7-10 with the Saints last season and is 5-4 this year, so the vast majority of that worst win percentage in the league came as head coach of… checks notes… the Raiders. I’m not sure that’s a coincidence. Last week: No. 19

14. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (5-3)

The Seahawks pretty much get exposed like they offered a free trial to their OnlyFans every time they face off against a real team. Luckily for them, they play the Washington Commanders this week, and they are, in no way, a real team. Last week: No. 11

15. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (5-3)

Well, the battle of wills between head Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks love of swivel chairs has finally come to an armistice. As of Sunday, Wilks will officially be on the sideline for the Niners and standing around like some sort of plebe, separated from his gilded thrown atop the coach’s box. Here’s a fun fact — Christian McCaffrey scored 10 touchdowns in the month of October. He’s the first player to do it since then St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson back in 2006. Last week: No. 12

16. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (4-4)

With Josh McDaniels out of the league, the attention now turns to Brandon Staley and his head coaching performance that’s left lots to be desired this season. Stacking up some wins, especially this week when hosting the Lions, could turn down the gas burner installed under his Union & Scale FlexFit Hyken Mesh Task Chair. Last week: No. 21

17. HOUSTON TEXANS (4-4)

It’s all but certain that CJ Stroud, barring some catastrophic collapse, will nab the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Award as he’s already posted the best rookie season for a QB, just halfway through, in NFL history. Here’s how good he was in Houston’s come from behind victory over the Atlanta Falcons last week — His 475 yards were a new NFL rookie passing record. His 147.8 passer rating was the highest for a rookie in NFL history. He was just the sixth rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw for 450 yards and five touchdowns in a single game. I’m thinking the Texans aced that pick. Last week: No. 22

18. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (4-5)

Gardner Minshew is going to keep playing just well enough to knock the Colts out of drafting high, but not well enough to make the postseason. The horrid New England Patriots coming up on the schedule will not help the situation at all. Last week: No. 25

19. WASHINGTON COMMANDERS (4-5)

I know you’re trying to tank, Commanders, but let me just speak for all of humanity when I say, thanks for hanging another loss on the Patriots last week. A grateful nation appreciates it. Last week: No. 26

20. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (4-5)

Weird how tossing Josh McDaniels off the nearest balcony instantly upgraded the Raiders across the board. The same thing happened two seasons ago when Vegas shoved Jon Gruden out the airlock. Maybe Mark Davis needs to actually lean into one of these interim head coaches and give him a shot. He obviously can’t be trusted to pick one in the regular interview process. Last week: No. 32

21. NEW YORK JETS (4-4)

When asked why he’s starting Zach Wilson this week instead of backup Trevor Siemian, head coach Robert Saleh said, “Fair question. I don’t know. I plead the fifth.” Which means the owners are forcing him to, even if Saleh backed away from that Thursday morning. It’s probably the only way Jets owner Woody Johnson can keep Wilson out of his wife Suzanne’s DMs. Last week: No. 15

22. GREEN BAY PACKERS (3-5)

In Aaron Rodgers’ first season as the Packers starter, the team went 6-10. In Brett Favre’s first, he went 5-8. What does that say about Jordan Love? I have no idea, but the fact that the Pack is sitting below .500 in his first campaign isn’t strange. It’s expected. Last week: No. 30

23. ATLANTA FALCONS (4-5)

Somehow, in spite of just being obviously bad at his job, Arthur Smith seems to have escaped, for now, the public hot seat talk. Even after willingly opening the year with a Desmond Ridder/Taylor Heinicke quarterback room. Of course, that’s not all on Smith, but certainly the consistent poor gameday performances and results are. I just want to remind this team, and every other squad with major questions at quarterback, that Lamar Jackson could have been added for a contract (that he absolutely deserved) and two first round picks. That’s less than the Los Angeles Rams gave up to draft Jared Goff, than the Washington Commanders gave up to draft Robert Griffin III and less than the San Francisco 49ers gave up to select Trey Lance. Last week: No. 16

24. LOS ANGELES RAMS (3-6)

The Rams haven’t folded their hand just yet. While Matthew Stafford is expected to take the field again after the team comes back from their bye, LA cleared out its QB room, cutting everyone and signing Carson Wentz as the backup. There’s no question that Wentz is the most talented QB available off the street and will at least keep Los Angeles competitive if Stafford goes down again. This is a team that can, maybe, lose two more games and still make the playoffs. They need to string some wins together, something they haven’t done all year. A note — CJ Stroud’s only real competition for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Puka Nacua, has set a Rams franchise rookie record with 64 receptions this season. And he still has nine games to go. A second note — with the acquisition of Wentz, the Rams will have fielded the No. 1 (Jared Goff), No. 2 (Carson Wentz), No. 5 (Jalen Ramsey) and No. 9 (Leonard Floyd) picks in the 2016 NFL Draft. Last week: No. 17

25. DENVER BRONCOS (3-5)

No one wanted to see the Broncos back on Prime Time, but the NFL schedulers saw fit to curse us with it once again Monday night. Denver has won two straight including the biggest upset of the season, a 24-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs that should haunt Andy Reid like a Victorian ghost for the rest of the season. Last week: No. 18

26. TENNESSEE TITANS (3-4)

I wasn’t a believer in Will Levis leading up to the draft, but he’s looked pretty good in his first two starts. He’s completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 500 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. More than that, he’s made DeAndre Hopkins a legit part of the offense now. The Titans aren’t a great team by any stretch, but they aren’t out of it. Considering that the Colts got Anthony Richardson, the Texans took CJ Stroud and the Jags have Trevor Lawrence in his third season, the AFC South could get considerably tougher over the next few seasons Last week: No. 20

27. NEW YORK GIANTS (2-7)

With Daniel Jones out for the season and Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve, the Giants will now turn to rookie undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito at quarterback. The real tragedy here is I’ve yet to figure out how to make a Tommy DeVito and Danny DeVito joke and it feels like it’s right there. It’s haunting me. I’ve worked over the Twins angle. Dug into Frank Reynold’s quotes from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I got nothing. This is a nightmare. Last week: No. 23

28. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (3-5)

After a hot start, the Buccaneers have lost four games in a row, and you can’t blame their schedule. They’ve dropped games to the Atlanta Falcons and the Houston Texans, hardly NFL powers. Todd Bowles might want to start looking for U-Haul groupons. Last week: No. 27

30. CAROLINA PANTHERS (1-7)

With Kyler Murray returning for the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots hosting the Colts, there’s a solid chance the Panthers will be dropped right back to No. 32 again unless they find some way to knock off the Bears with a returning Justin Fields Thursday night. Last week: No. 28

31. So, not only are the Patriots bad, they could get even worse when Bill Belichick adds Josh McDaniels as an offensive consultant in a week or two, mergin him into to his all-star coaching staff including Bill’s two sons, Scunt and Flart or whatever the hell their names are. It turns out the “Patriot Way” is to lose almost every game you play without Tom Brady. Who knew? Last week: No. 29

32.
